I lost the vast majority of my dials.

By Razgriz25thinf, in X-Wing

I've been carrying my ship dials in a bag since i started the game. And, recently, out of everything in my collection i could have lost, i lost that bag. I have no clue where it is. Now, theres a very short list of ships i am actually able to fly, as i stored their dials separate. We're talking like, $500-600 worth of ships that i can't use because their dials are gone. I want to know what options i have. Rebuying the ships is not an option, simply because one way or another i have a ton of models i cant fly because they lack dials(not to mention the sheer cost). I could put in a ticket to FFG, but honestly the scope of it feels too large, not to mention how would they resolve it? Would they just send a bunch of cardboard with the dials in them and the plastic pieces? Cause i don't see FFG sending me $500 worth of expacs to replace the dials... And since dials are useless without their models and vice versa, is there even a 3rd party option?

Put the ticket in to FFG; the worst that happens is they say no. Even if they just send you the cardboard, you could then buy a bunch of dial upgrade kits, which would be a bit expensive but considerably less so than rebuying all of those ships.

There have been some aftermarket dials made, such as Applied Perspective's universal movement dial, but you don't have a wide range of options. I imagine that's because it's difficult to sell something that would absolutely never be tournament legal - which would be the other problem with this route, if you care about competitive play.

If you have a smart phone there is an app called Dials for X-Wing. This will get you through in the mean time. Other option is you can print out the dials and use a dry eraser on laminated printouts. I've seen some people do that with them due to problems in their hands.

I would ask FFG and see. Doesn't hurt to ask.

You can buy just the dials from a 3rd party seller, I've seen them in ebay. Still would be spendy, but a whole lot cheaper than replacing the ships.

If you know somebody with a 3D printer, he may be able to help you out with those plastic parts which come for the dials

Sry to hear that, wish you best luck and hope you are able to fly again soon!

He wouldn't need a dial upgrade for each ship luckily. Just interchange them when needed. I do that with mine already. I have 2 Imperial packs, 1 Rebels, & 1 Scum.

Do you live in SoCal? I have quite a collection and mod ships, and play a version WITHOUT using dials. Yes I have virgin dials doing nothing but sitting in a ziplock bag, in a case, in a closet. I will never use them.

message me if interested....

I think your best bet is to crowdsource donations from players in your flgs or local facebook group. I'm sure people can spare one or two dials that they don't use. Like who in their right mind is going to use their Kihraxz Scyk Starviper X-Wing dials?

Why would you do that? The planning phase is the best part of X-wing.

Here, buy new dials:

You are welcome.

A 4 X-Wing List won just last tournament. ;-)

The one issue with the cog-o-two dials is if he plays tournament play, third party dials aren't legal, only dial upgrades (for normal store tournaments a TO might let it slide due to the loss of dials, but if he goes to higher level events)

If he goes to higher level events everyone will be happy to supply him with loaners. The x-wing community is that kind of great. I bet you can go to nationals with just the entry fee and your list printouts and people would still find enough tournament legal stuff for you to play in the event. I still would not try this on purpose ;-)

Now FFG stepping in and handing out a bunch of dials for a small fee would be naturally even better, but it is an unlikely scenario and just buying the awesome cog-o-two dials would make his whole collection playable again. :)

Also probably true. Just pointing out the caveat :)

Ohh sorry for you!

I can recommend you a very good X-wing dial App:

"Dials for X-wing"

It is free an you can "hide" them before revealing.

At least you can still play games

I would sell the ships on ebay... consider selling some of the upgrade cards you won't need and then buy all the ships again.

That's a stupid idea, and he will lose even more this way. I would buy second party ones for casual play and borrow for tournaments.

There are a few people who just like the models and don't play the game at all. Those would pay decent enough for just the models, allow reselling of upgrade cards and you actually might make a small profit, BUT considering the amount of work you need to put in to find the right buyers, manage your sales, etc … works the other way around too as those people don't need their dials at all, but they are are to find … the OP might be lucky over in the FFG SWRPG forum.

3rd Party dials would still be my recommendation as well.

The worst thing you can do is ask and get a no.

I lost 10 dials and asked FFG for replacements and with in just a few days I had all of them replaced.

Haha! I just play with my own rule scheme. Don't freak out, there must be others that play with their own modified rules.

kinda like we all bought a deck of cards (core set).

most of you guys are playing Rummy withThe Joker cards (dials).

i use the deck of cards (core set and expansions) to play Texas Hold Em Poker (my rules/ my game) .... I have no use for the joker card (dials).

Just get three JK5 dials and use them for any of your squad's large base ships and six TIE Interceptor dials for all your small ones when fielded.

...but in all seriousness, I sat a Shuttle dial in a beer condensate ring which ruined the bottom half, alerted Asmodee, and four days later? A new dial in the mail. Perhaps tell them the story, you never know ???

this makes me think acrylic dials would look really awesome.

Would you make list of dials that you miss, maybe people could help you out here easier if we know what dials we are talking about.

I might have some dials, unopened to give away, I will check later today, but I live out of USA, but postal service is usually pretty cheap.

Just ask FFG, hat in hand. If they say "no," you're no worse off than you are now, right? This is a major request, for sure, but I've seen FFG customer service pull some first-class moves. (It boggles my mind that FFG customer service and OP are in the same organization.)

I agree that X-Wing community has really good thing going on. I have been offered help in and out of tournaments, borrowing dials, cards, damage decks and what not, anything else related to X-Wing. It has been always one of my favorite things about X-Wing community, outside of the forum people are nice and polite always, here things seem to go bit in personal insults etc, but what would be internet forum without some "picking".. :D

Doesn't hurt to ask FFG, they could potentially save one player/customer by offering helping hand. Just explain what's going on and go from there. I'm sure that X-Wing community can always offer help, ask Facebook groups and wouldn't be so bad idea to ask from some podcasts.
