I finally gave up on the U-Wing. I think!

Just noticed this was a double post!

If you love the U-wing you should keep practicing! I'm seeing a lot of good ideas here with varied flying styles :)

Cut double post

My favorite list is (suspiciously) similar to the one @Dr Zoidberg posted with Swarm Leader and 3 greens. In that list Cassian rolls more dice than a Lothal at the same price can :) My answer to keeping things in arc of the U-wing comes down to two things: blockers and asteroids.

Using the A-wings to control enemy movement takes practice, but with the zero stop, Rey crew, and AdvSen you can block and hold with the A-wings while Cassian just stands there with his bazooka and deals fully modded damage.

The second half of my strategy is the asteroids. I take the three biggest and do all I can to make a dense field during setup. Then I setup the A's in an arrow formation in whichever corner is more obstructed by rocks and Cassian pointed sideways, facing the A's, between the A's and the center so he will be flying behind the rocks. Slow roll to build up Rey then if they set up straigt across I always take the joust because SL makes great attacks. Otherwise I roll slowly into the rocks, building focus, while the A's move to engage in the rocks. Once everything is in there the enemy has very limited options between A-wing blockers and the asteroids. This method takes a lot of practice as well since you have to be comfortable flying a large base through a tight asteroid field without rocking yourself.

Yeah, I really don't want to use Biggs.

I might well give up on the game if it's so reliant on a handful of ships, we'll see. I just want to believe this is a game where you can pick things you like and have fun with them, I'm still quite new!

Don't give up on the game. Even if you get frustrated with the competitive 100/6 style games, try missions and HotAC style cooperative games before giving up. There's a vast galaxy of adventure out there and there's almost no such thing as a bad ship in these games.

The dial isn't bad , it just isn't great. With no special actions either, the ship is very vanilla. Compare it to the Lambda and the YV-666 and you can see the ship is in the right range for maneuverability. The Rebels however don't have the same offensive impact with crew so the 'bus' aspect isn't a spectacular option.

Part of the issue is also that even if the Rebels did get offensive crew, those crew members would work much better on a Lothal. The U-Wing needs something (a crew/EPT) that would allow it to defer using the title until the end phase.

the ship you really need to give up on is the quackjumper. I've tried multiple iterations of every pilot and am always underwhelmed. So disappointing.

Quadjumper: just use Unkar Plutt with the tractor tug array. He's cheap, annoying, and just durable enough that your opponent has to decide if they really want to waste at least two attacks just to kill that stupid thing.

One of my greatest X-Wing moments of the past year has to be the time I used Unkar to tractor beam Omega Leader onto a rock for damage. Omega hit that rock again while executing its maneuver, which turned out to be a K-turn onto another rock. It was essentially a total of three damage dealt by a single tractor beam, and I didn't have to fire a shot.

There is a reason though to use a Uwing instead of a Ghost: price. 23 < 35. Again, if said support crew were available, which it is not. Much like you I look at the VCX a fair bit more in the current environment.

The title is more use when you're already out of position, a common occurrence with buses.

Rephrase:

Biggs is necessary in a COMPETITIVE environment if you're trying to win a big event. Biggs is not necessary to win a local level tournament or pick up ships and have fun with them.

That's not what I said at all, but...sure...?

Just needz hard 1 left and right, a 3 k turn, and slam action. Then itd be gravy.

Frankly...i wish it were a small base ship. If the K-wing is i kind think the U-Wing could be.

The ship model is to **** cool not to use!

I know. I just hate the talk of binning ships or that you can only fly certain combos like its a hard truth in all situations.

That said, I can see there was some friendly banter going on, which means I should have held back. No slight intended.

Quadjumper have a lot of builds :) expecially multiple of them,

I love the U-wing! I even own three of them. I have flown 4 with FCS and they did ok but without a crew or any other upgrades, they didn't last long. I have tried it in so may lists. I have flown one with several other ships, two with one other one or even three with some upgrades and I cannot make it work. I flew one in a list today at a local tournament and it got wrecked. I love flying it but it needs something. I am hoping there will that magic card that will make it good. It is such a cool ship. I am not giving up on it yet.
