Asmodee is going to one distributor only!

By ramy, in X-Wing

It looks like we will never get anything ever again after this deal. I have hope that I'm wrong but after 35 years of ordering through diamond I'll have to see positive results before I raise my opinion of their distribution practices. I'd have to add a room on just to keep all the things in that were ordered that had been zero'd out or just never shipped or mentioned again.

Oh crap, that is actually not good news. Alliance/Diamond is literally the worst distributor I have to deal with.

Damnit.

In Canada I think FFG product was sold exclusively through Lion Rampant games, but I believe Alliance does have a Canadian unit. I have not been able to find anything about how this will affect Canada at all. (But I think there is an Asmodee Canada, so Asmodee North America could just be the US or US/Mexico).

My store says it is not affecting Canada. USA only. Canada might be switching to F2Z however in the fall. Which cannot be worse than LRI.

Well, it figures, the game is one faction only, soooo it kinda fits. Diamond will not have to keep up with that much X-Wing stock.

???....too easy, sorry, ???

So how this effect on X-Wing? Do they have any role in distribution of X-Wing? If so, does it happen in a order FFG->ALLIANCE or ALLIANCE->FFG, just trying to get the idea that are we to expect some distribution delays with X-Wing products from FFG to miniature stores?

Is this only North America or does this have indirect effect on European miniature markets?

I have never heard of these guys, but I got worried because FFG has some delays on their own always, especially with publishing new stuff, I would be heartbroken if there would be even more delay now!

Asmodee North America is in charge of all of the Asmodee controlled companies in the US (which includes Fantasy Flight Games). That is why it is related to X-Wing. It does not look like it will affect Europe, since Asmodee in Europe makes their distribution deals.

Ah, I see that they did announce they are leaving LRI in Canada. But the press release made it sound like they were self distributing.

I am now extra, extra glad I didn't get into Destiny.

This announcement will officially kill the game in my local store. I was planning to step away from running the organized play at our store after this month, it's just a shame that the game will not be a part of our store for much longer afterwards. Actually getting product from diamond is not worth the trouble from what my local store is telling me. So much for the great smokescreen FFG/asmodee put out about wanting to help the local brick and mortar stores, I mean my local store owner and I discussed it at the time and we both agreed it was BS, now we just have the proof.

If this is true for most....oh crap.

It probably won't affect much in the way of big stores, but for those of us who have a smaller FLGS in our area, yeah, it will affect them tremendously. The last two game systems we had played at our store had something similar happen, players could get what they wanted, when they wanted it online cheaper than in store. None of those games have any player base in our area above the kitchen table crowd now.

You think that there will be price increase in FFG products and more chance for delays? It sounds bad for North America, but I don't understand the system yet is why I'm asking these things. Luckily I am in Europe, but I am afraid that this might effect indirectly in our distribution as well.

There isn't likely to be delays or change in price. What will be affected is when things have to be allocated, smaller stores will be screwed out of product. Also, expect high demand items to "suddenly be found" in order to clear out some older, slower to move inventory. They also do not have a great history with OP kits.

Well so much for X-wing 2.0. At least it is not the only Star Wars Product going through production issues cough*LastJedicough*

But hey now we got a new scapegoat for delays instead of slowboat in china and dock strikes.

Next step : Nobody is allowed to play Asmodee games unless they are an employee of Asmodee. Step after that - Voldemort.

You either die a hero, or live long enough to become mid 2000's GW.

For those of us who are not in the know of the game industry, how will this impact us? I don't know enough about it. Does alliance have a reputation for failing to deliver? Most of my purchases have been through FFG game center direct since it's what's here. Occasionally online when there's a sale.

It really depends on your store's relationship with Alliance. Which is a bit of an issue.

I don't foresee too many issues with this game, as we haven't really had shortages in a long time. Destiny, however, good luck with that.

Just reprint time gap issues. Most wanted, TIE bombers, HWks, to name a few in the past; K-wings/Y-wings currently.

Are there any details about this agreement? Does the agreement actually say "screw the smaller store, sell everything through Amazon"? If so, this is a 180 on Asmodee's part, or there may be a 180 on the distributor's part. Either way, some zebra is going to change their stripes. I don't think we know what is currently going on though.

I heard that Lion Rampant is out and another distributor is in. The new one is a small outfit in Montreal about as big as a regular store. I heard this from a store owner looking at getting in more stock of X-wing and commenting on the change of distributors.

Our local store used southern distributors, all preorders have been cancelled. All future orders will be filled through Alliance/Diamond. Since we probably have some players who also are comic book store guys too, tell me, have you ever ordered anything through previews only for the shop to tell you that it was zero'd out or cancelled on the order? Yeah that's why I've never ordered this game through Diamond in the past. All new orders will come from the same people who ship FLGS's their comic books. The stores will incur higher costs because they have no choice but to order from Diamond and pay shipping charges as well. When things are short stocked (like strikers and u wings last year) they will allocate whichever stores they choose to not get product. With their history of getting OP kits out to stores from other games they were the sole supplier for doesn't give me good feelings either. It's a very good time to have decided to focus more on the Epic and Campaign play in X wing, that way if things go poorly on the distribution end and we see a drop in OP play in my area I'll still have a good time with the game.
