Asmodee is going to one distributor only!

By ramy, in X-Wing

The amount of product won't change, so if you could buy before, you can buy now. The real issue is, will there be a game store to play at, not to buy from.

This is certainly interesting. So Asmodee was going to become "the savior of the small FLGS" by forcing any online seller to increase the prices they sell at. Now, according to what I am reading in this thread, Asmodee is saying "FU and have a great time getting that product from the distributer after we worked so hard to try to drive anyone who still wanted to play to you after the online price hikes."

To me, it just means that Asmodee is treating the United States EXACTLY the way they treat the Rest of the World.

Single Exclusive Distribution.

Which makes sense, being that Asmodee's parent and founding Company wasn't a US Company.

If this is true, I can't wait for all my free games.

You either die a hero, or live long enough to become mid 2000's GW.

That is the most accurate statement ever.

However it looks like Asmodee has it's sights on some sort of monopolization scheme. So, it might actually be trying to be more evil and inept than GW was.

This announcement will officially kill the game in my local store. I was planning to step away from running the organized play at our store after this month, it's just a shame that the game will not be a part of our store for much longer afterwards. Actually getting product from diamond is not worth the trouble from what my local store is telling me. So much for the great smokescreen FFG/asmodee put out about wanting to help the local brick and mortar stores, I mean my local store owner and I discussed it at the time and we both agreed it was BS, now we just have the proof.

Now in europe asmodee combined consolidations like this with downright buying out the distributors and restructuring them to fit better onto Asmodee logistics. Germany for example had suffered for example for about 6 months with very low availability of FFG products, but it seems now that the buyout of the UK and german distributor worked out fine enough. The german distributor lost in the process the rights on the english product lines and deals now only with the localized products, BUT the uk branch seems to deliver now. Took their sweet time to get everything sorted out though.

So, there is still hope left. :)

I heard that Lion Rampant is out and another distributor is in. The new one is a small outfit in Montreal about as big as a regular store. I heard this from a store owner looking at getting in more stock of X-wing and commenting on the change of distributors.

Yeah, Lion Rampant is out. I won't shed any tears for them, however... they gave us one final kick. Stores looking for FFG stock... if they don't already have it, Lion will not order it. The new distributor cannot order it as the contract is not active yet. So new releases (Hera/Chopper Imperial Assault, dammit) are out of reach for the moment. At least, that was what I was told when I tried to order some things in.

Well, it figures, the game is one faction only, soooo it kinda fits. Diamond will not have to keep up with that much X-Wing stock.

???....too easy, sorry, ???

Yah...that is actually one of the truly funny posts I've read on this forum in a while. A Lingot for you, sir!

This is awful news for many American brick-n-mortar stores, and the player-bases that they serve.

FFG was the shining exemplar of game companies prior to the Asmodee merger, but since then they really seem to have plummeted in quality and service across the board.

I absolutely agree.

The Asmodee merger, or acquisition, whatever it was that put Asmodee in charge was the worst thing to happen to FFG - at least from the stand point of the players and retailers.
If I didn't know any better, and I actually do not, I would think that Asmodee is actually trying to make as much profit off of FFG as fast as possible, run it into the ground, and then move to sell FFG off. A not uncommon business practice. I hope that this is not the case.

I don't see any problem with this at all, may be a good thing. 100% of the FFG products in my store came from Alliance.
