How would you fly this?

By drail14me, in X-Wing

I'm new to the game and trying to learn different strategies. I'm playing my first League match tonight which is only my 4th actual game of X-Wing.

League rules are: We draw one named pilot. We get 75 points to build a squad with that named pilot. We can't use any other named pilot. We can't use large based ships.

I draw Garven Dries and added R2-D2 and IA. Also have a Green Sqd A-wing with Chardaan Refit + A-Wing Test Pilot + Crack Shot + A Score To Settle and a Gold Sqd Y-Wing with BTL-4 + R5-P9 + TLT

My opponent has: Vader + Predator, Shadow Sqd Pilot, Black Sqd Pilot + Expert Handling

What are some different strategies for this game?

I think you may want to take the title off of the Y-Wing. Your opponent does not have autothrusters so the TLT could be a big advantage for you. The big disadvantage of having the title is that if they get behind the Y-Wing it won't last long. They're going to try and get range 1 so do you best to keep it range 2-3 from their ships. If you're set on the title then I'd suggest engaging really slowly so they can't get behind you and take Target Locks with the Y-Wing since it'll most likely be getting a focus from Garven. Get your A-Wing out front and try to do some blocking, especially on Vader.

Thanks! Good advice!

I thought about running my X-wing and A-wing out front and holding the Y-wing back a bit to keep range 2-3. Then maybe circle the Y out and try to keep it out of their arcs and circle them. Try was the key word. I know, I know....Do, or do not, there is no try!

Definitely abuse the TLT without title. Probably put Score to Settle on either of the "not Vaders", pick first target based on opportunity, hopefully get Vader off quick

If you are set on the title foy the ywing add R3-A2 for some stress control. Attack with primary, 1 stress, attack with secondary, 1 stress. 2 stress a turn. Don't worry about being unstressed with him as all ypu need him for is handing out stress like candy.

For flying tips. Get Vader locked down with stress early. Actionless Vader is a dead Vader. Don't underestimate the phantom but do not fear it either. They can go down quick but can still pack a punch.

Hope that helps some

Thanks for the tips guys. I just finished my match and it went very well. I was worried about that Tie Phantom and it's 4 attack dice. However, Garven caught him at range one after the tie had bumped and had no actions. Garven rolled two hits and two crits. The phantom rolled a blank and a focus. Boom. Bye bye!

From there, Vader and the other Tie tried to chase down the Y while Garven was feeding the Y focus tokens for shields. The whole time the TLT's were wearing down Vader and the tie. Garven and the A-wing came in and finished off the Tie and Vader. Fun game.

We get another 25 points for our next league round. I'm thinking about adding another Gold Sqd Y with a Blaster Turret and R5-D8.
