G-Chips: Have to turn dice to a crit?

If your primary weapon is 3 or higher, and lets say you fire missile at Backdraft, but Quickdraw has Draw Their Fire. You want to use chips, but can you change it to a hit instead of a crit to stop Quickdraw from DTF and using ability? Or because your primary weapon is 3 or higher, you have to change it to a crit or leave it as it is?

Those parenthesis confuse me and kind of make it sound like primary 3 or higher has to change it to a crit.

You can choose to change a result or not, but if your primary weapon value is 3 or higher, then it's going to become a crit. I don't think you can downgrade your crit result by choice.

Well, it's written as an or. Assuming that you weapon value is 3 or more, the effective ability text would be 'you may change 1 die result to a [Hit] result or a [Crit] result.

It it was a forced change, I would expect the caveat to say instead. So yeah, I would say you can choose in the case of 3+.

The logical "or" implies you can change the die to a hit "or" a crit provided you meet the condition.

I second our language expert InquisitorM, it would have needed an instead somewhere to replace it in case of 3 attacks:

"you may change 1 die result to a BOOM result (or a KABOOM result instead if your primary weapon value is "3" or higher).

I agree with InquisitorM - based on the wording changing a dice to a hit is a given for all ships and if you have a primary weapon of 3 or more then you can choose a hit or a crit.

I have never thought about it before. Most ships I use it with have a primary 2, but if I ever used it with primary 3, I defaulted to a Crit.

If there was a seperate sentence that stated primary 3 changes to a crit - then I would would say crit is mandatory.

There is so little reason to think that anyone would choose a hit over a crit that I'm not surprised it hasn't been considered before. Nor would I assume that the creators even considered the distinction a necessary one. It's far from clear and neither logic nor linguistic accuracy hold half as much sway as I'd want them to :P

TO here... yes you can. It does not matter your Primary Weapon value in your situation because the card reads, "....you may change 1 die result to a hit result," so you basically can change a single die, no matter what you rolled, to a HIT result. The "or" part added latter, is if your Primary Weapon value is 3 or higher, you have the option of going to a CRIT result as well.

If you are shooting at a ship with Draw Their Fire you wouldn't want the crit.
