I never understood how people could take a rule like "you need to have a physical copy of every card and cannot proxy ships" seriously outside of FFG sponsored events. There are not many ways in which you can constrict your own fun like that voluntarily and needlessly.
This game is getting better

Really? I have and do play other miniature and war games. Most of the ones I choose to play do not have an FAQ as large or ever changing as the core rule set or the possible hundreds interactions that may change with the next FAQ.

Well one reason may be that some people on this forum made such a big deal of printing and/or proxying our own cards calling it theft, stealing and being an otherwise horrible person. Saying they would never play with and call them out at game stores even in a casual environment. If you want to play four TIE Interceptors you should be okay buying four Star Vipers; if you want to play TIE Advanced you should be okay buying the CR-90, etc...
I have, what I consider, a sizable collection and I still proxy. I think with everything I bought I would have plenty of everything to fit my need yet I still do not. Whenever possible I use a squad builder, and hope they don't go away anytime soon.

HOPE :-)

If this game is to complicated for you, do not try magic: the gathering or Warhammer 40k
(well we will see next Saturday if this is true for the 8th edition of WH40k but I expect it still to be complicated)
Played Magic for some years and i would say it's easier to get into than Xwing. It's only when you get deeper into the game that Xwing become the easiest.
From my view the game really is getting better. But I need to elaborate a little on why i feel that way.
The Guns for hire pack (among other things) I would say brings back jousting and generics into the meta. Yes, it is way too early to say but in my book the new titles will make the Khiraxz and vipers cost efficient threats. This in turn may well bring back the generic Rebel jousters (B-wings in particular) into the meta. And with jousting a bigger part of the meta perhaps a decline in the PWTs will be seen and then maybe aces can come back as a player.
But that is a lot of wishful thinking on my part.

Yeah, I would totally agree. For one thing, what was written on the card was always true !! What finally made me bail on the game was when they started changing card interactions, ergo the introduction of the "stack" mechanic. After 5 years of understanding that tap > interrupt > instant > summon (speed wise), they wanted to make it "simpler" and actually ruined the timing sequence. Now, I don't think there are even interrupts anymore.
So, thanks to timing arguments at M:TG tournaments, the entire game was flipped on its head for casuals.
Sadly, this is exactly what is happening to XWM. Casuals, who kinda don't care, feel burdened by an endless stream of card changes and errata that make it impossible to feel like they understand what is going on. Plus, fun elements of the game (like adding Prequel ships--what do we do about faction control?) and forward momentum of development (here comes the next Ace revision box) are sidelined by constant revisions and changes.

Can't agree, sry, no offense
Card types changed, text was changed, really bad and inconsistent wording in early editions. apart from that: cards not payable due to bans, later again due to unbans, rules clarifications (FAQ style), ...
check a random card pre 2000-sth (or even in the latest edition) with some text on it on magiccards.info - chances are really high that there is a clarification to it or an errata for the older ones.
E ver cared to read the magic rules ? My favourite is the removal of the stack after combat damage...
No more interrupts, that's true, every instant can now interrupt (except for "split second" stuff which cannot be interrupted since you can't put anything on the stack above it)
I really think X-Wing is in a good shape regarding the rules and easy to learn on top of that

Not even mentioning the twenty spreadsheets required to figure out which cards are actually legal in a given setting.

I have a nice X wing community in my store, but if I flew try hard lists on full capacity every week, my less experienced locals would get sick of losing to shenanigans and leave. My community would, 100% die if I went WAAC for even a few weeks. But as long as I nurture local players like tender flowers, more and more poeple keep buying core sets because of the fun experiences they had with a new group of friends.
This is what every local XWing community should be doing! If some experienced meta players come in and crush everyone, it can destroy the community you are trying to build. Without a solid supportive community, there will be no opponents!
