StarViper Mk.II going to be the new standard in Titles going forward?

I don't have to.

No you don't. It just makes it harder to have any kind of discussion...

So when they first added Titles to the game, they were meant to represent specific ships of a certain model from the lore that had unique modifications. Like the Falcon or the Slave-1.

Later on, they started introducing other variant models of ships as a way of "fixing" ships that weren't up to snuff or adding new utility. Like the Royal Guard TIE or the TIE Shuttle. These were usually drawn from the lore as lots of ships often had different variants in the lore.

With the new StarViper Mk. II, FFG is doing something new. They're basically making up a new variant that doesn't exist in the lore at all. And it's basically just version 2 of the ship, it's not even like a new unique ship or modification of the ship. It even stacks with the previous title available to the StarViper.

It's basically like FFG is saying "Sorry this ship sucked. Here's a 2nd pass at it."

So I'm wondering, is this going to be a repeated thing going forward? If a ship needs a buff but doesn't have any alternate versions in the lore FFG can exploit, are they just going to slap a Mk. II on there and call it a day? And if so? Is that fine? Or is it uncreative?

I would imagine that this is the best way to renew ships and now we have already cross that line so it will be new tittles for poopy ships. They're making Kihraxz and Star Vipers amazing by just adding these tittles and it really works for me. I'm pretty sure that there will sooner than later some new tittles for Empire and Rebels.

That just has me wondering if, like 5 years from now, when the power creep continues far enough, are we going to end up getting "StarViper Mk. III" and "StarViper Mk. IV" titles keep up?

I don't think that we are going to go that far.

Having the last post is not a discussion. I already said I don't like the idea. Ships should not have "special rules" unless it is a whole new type of ship hence the Large base ship and firing arc. Pilots should have special rules, upgrades, stat values, firing and profiles, and dial should be enough to make the ships unique without having to give them an auto-include title. Titles have sort of become FFG's crutch to all ships. Either way, my opinions are not going to change the ways those ships are played or the expansion so there really is no need to discuss it any further.

We will likely see a 2nd (maybe even 3rd) edition by then.

I really hope that's not the case.

I can see them making a 2nd edition at some point because they've learned a lot about their mistakes and whatnot, and the game has expanded in ways they didn't originally plan. I would hope they wouldn't make those same mistakes a 2nd time to warrant a 3rd edition.

Unless it's just taken as a given that all miniatures games have to be rebooted every certain number of years. Which I don't.

There's only so many ways you can configure a dial. We already see ships with very similar dials. And different stat lines for different pilots makes little sense when it's a mass profuced ship like the arc or tie/sf. Combined with the fact that outside of the ORS, we've never had another pilot with a different stat line from the rest in the same ship, and I don't imagine ffg will change that now. That's one of the uses of titles, to show a modified ship (like the punishing one getting an extra attack die). Ditto for upgrades slots.

Well it is a given, but lets just say that there is plenty of time between now and 2.0. I don't expect a 2nd edition of X-wing before Episode 9 is released, and that is years from now.

Don't forget they have also released two versions of the same title before (Falcon 1 and Falcon 2) so we could see other titles going down that route.
