So I have always felt like X-Wing has followed similar patterns as the Star Wars universe. The X-Wing/ Y-Wing vs the simple Tie, then suddenly the tie-interceptors came in and shook up the universe. Now the empire really only has the decimator and the Defender, so a ship designed to hunt fighters and arguably the most advanced ship the empire can field. Scum are dominating because they are powerful and cheat (I say that with love) and the Empire and Rebels are having a hard time dealing with it. You almost never see the Empire in small engagements now.
Dare I say that we are in the Early New Republic phase? The Rebels are struggling to reign in the scum fringers and the Empire is all but absent as they gather their strength. The X-Wing is old and out-classed and the heavy fighter errr- Bomber, the K-Wing is very common now that the Republic can afford to field them frequently. The Rebels have even started phasing out the X-Wing for the T-70. However, the old X-Wings and Y-Wings are still doing their part protecting the transports while they fight off the last remains of the Imperial fleet.
With Imperial officers and Wing Commanders losing their edge as their resources dwindle, they are even starting to join the scum of the galaxy. Rebels, frustrated with the defeats their new republic are suffering, are becoming frustrated and welcoming black market activities. The Galaxy is looking more and more chaotic.
Now there is a new risk. the scum are growing too powerful and are about to challenge the New Republic for control of the trade lanes. Rumor has it pirates and criminals are building epic fleets to lay waste to both imperial and Rebel fleets...
The last of the imperials are slowly waiting for the last of their RnD Departments to make the ships they need to re-conquer the galaxy.
Rebels are having minor victories but overall are being over-run with scum. With the Rebel Alliance's transformation into the New Republic, there is a new wave of politics. Many wanting to revamp their aging X-Wings to keep them viable with little success. Some pointing out that the X-Wing is doing just fine escorting their larger fleets and wanting no change, hoping to focus on the economics of the galaxy. Officers are desperately trying to think of new and exciting ways to use ancient ships like the ARC-170 in an effort to continue their war efforts while they wait for newer tools to spread freedom to the galaxy.
I don't know about you, but this feels like Star Wars to me! Lol

I just wanted to have some fun with it. This is, and always will be, a Star Wars game to me, even with all the scum around. I feel for the competitive imperial players. I recognize how hard it is to keep a game running smoothly and I think FFG will get it worked out. Games with expansions will always have growing pains. Where the "Not Star Wars" part comes in is the even sq points. Let's face it, when did the Empire EVER only field 100 pts worth of ships? lol
If you are burnt out from the Meta, shake it up and have some fun. Step away from tournaments for a bit.
