I would be interested, but for those of use that weren't able to get into the official event, there's also no guarantee we'll be able to get the game, either.
GenCon Unofficial Event Interest?
Unofficial tournament would probably allow proxies. Kind of like what Kolat edition did when Emperor Edition was delayed.

I don't think dividing the player base like that is the way to go, personally.
The space wouldn't be the only problem an unofficial tournament would face. You also need the logistics : a staff of referees, a computer for the pairings, etc.

Well to be fair Nakata didn't talk about tournament software. I guess because he's aware of such an alternative. ![]()
Yes, there are lots of softwares you could use, but you need a computer with power. But I guess there are power sockets around GenCON and a few people attend with their laptop, but staying in front of the laptop during a whole tournament is not always funny.
The TO could participate and just have his opponent go to him if anything, though the need for multiple rules gurus would be handy. A new game with no official presence you would either have had to been in the tourney to hear a ruling if a card works a certain way or agree on something with opponent/judges of that's how a card is 'understood to work'. Size of tourney would also be something to think about, is it dictated by how many days passed giving people the opportunity to buy a core from dealers hall or will they sell it till another day at the con? How many spots is fair to players and the people running event?
If I'm free, I'd love to flip cardboard and meet more people in the community.
I can have a portable laptop on scene for coordination.
I think we should do 11pm-2am Friday night. That way it doesn't collide with events and there should be space.
3 round Swiss, Clan Battle - winning player and clan get prizes.
Barring massive pushback I'll update the OP after work and start working toward that.
Edited by ReigaAs long as I can get my hands on some product then yes.

I'm with you. I have some other events lined up, but I'd be more than happy to play with anyone if I'm free. This includes either a tournament or just a casual game. I'll probably carry my core set with me so I'm easier to spot. ![]()

I, ah, don't think that's going to make you as easy to spot at GenCon as you might think ![]()
We could allow for proxies if people didn't get a core, it gives two days to try and get one from the dealers hall (thursday/friday morning). Is the play rules limit of one core or contents of one core (if you proxy) to keep it even?

Depends on how many copies they have to offer, I suppose.
There's a ton of interest already, the slots have all sold out. and we have a vibrant thread on here just from people who want to play in an unofficial tournament. When you add that to the lengths people are saying they'll go to in order to grab a core set (I've heard people already say they'll be queuing overnight to be at the front on Thursday morning), and the many people who have stated they'll be hanging around the card hall as soon as they've picked up their core in order to play games, I'm just saying you might need something else to distinguish you!
I am in for playing.
Hey everyone, looks like we've definitely got some interest! I won't have any updates for about a week as I'll be traveling - leaning toward Friday night as mentioned previously and looking into what it takes to make it an official event.
Hey everyone, back in town and will pick up the torch again. Still hearing strong interest on the Discord and other places, look for another post this week detailing the time, place, etc.
