It's NOT the 'year of scum', people

By xanderf, in X-Wing

I know folks are getting worked up over the 'Scum Aces' expansion - and while it is certainly exciting, and "following on the C-ROC" appears to point to a major push for the Scum faction...appearances are deceiving.

Specifically, it's not 'following on the C-ROC expansion'. There is stuff between there, Episode VIII (and possibly 'Rebels') related, that FFG simply cannot announce yet....

  • SWX58: C-ROC Cruiser
  • SWX59: Sabine's TIE
  • SWX60: Upsilon Shuttle
  • SWX61: Quadjumper
  • SWX62: U-Wing
  • SWX63: TIE Striker
  • SWX64: Auzituck Gunship
  • SWX65: Scurrg H-6 Bomber
  • SWX66: TIE Aggressor
  • SWX67: ?
  • SWX68: ?
  • SWX69: Alpha-class Star Wing
  • SWX70: M12-L Kimogila
  • SWX71: ?
  • SWX72: Phantom II
  • SWX73: Guns for Hire

If Episode VIII follows the precedent of VII for ship types (and it sounds like it will, not to mention what we've already seen in the trailers), SWX67 to SWX72 are likely going to be nearly entirely Imperial and Rebel ships. Maybe one token Scum in there (still betting on that Mining Guild TIE from Rebels), but the new movies bring a LOT of content to the original factions vs Scum.

Edit: added what has been announced for wave 12 as of 8-21-2017.

Nah 67-72 are clearly just jumpmaster accessories. Hats, bowties, special torpedos, the works. Ffg is just finally moving until what they've always wanted to market: Star Wars flavored tabletop horseshoes.

What are you some kinda idiot?

Scum is getting new things, so clearly FFG is biased and only wants people to play scum any other possibility is clearly wrong.

Buhhahaha. Hats for the Jumpmaster. Made my day :D:D

You must be fun at parties.

Sure it's not a "Year of Scum" (are people really saying that??? Ugh...) but the Killer Croc is about to drop and a much anticipated scum release was just announced.

Is it so odd that people are excited?

Where's the harm?

The excited people are fine, it's the people claiming that scum is the only thing in xwing and that both other factions are complete garbage that this post is aimed at.

Got it.

Carry on, then, I've clearly fallen behind.

Fixed that for you.

I have no issue that competitively Scum is king, I fly them too, they have killer squads. But every time I see that in print, I truly throw up in my mouth a bit; the best TIE/LN in the game shouldn't be a stolen one....ewwwwww!

I didn't derail the thread I hope. I get your point; it's valid. But Scum does absolutely have the cheapest horsepower in the race.

I expect at least 2 of those to be Episode VIII TLJ ships. Now does that mean Wave 12 is going to be a 4 ship release? If so which faction is going to get 2 ships?

or

Episode 8 release is going to have 3 TLJ ships (one for each faction) and Wave 12 is going to be a 3 ship release. Well 3 ships + the 3 TLJ ships.

So for the former I would guess scum would be receiving 2 ships since they are still behind on the ship count with all the movie tie-ins.

For the latter it would all be the same, but yeah this is the year of scum. 2 time worlds championship the 2017 Open and many store championships this season along with them finally getting their huge ship and alternate paint scheme expansion packs (both which are long overdue) Yes this is the year of scum. You can't say however this wasn't deserved for Scum had to have a lot of patience (since Wave 6) to finally catch up with the original two factions.

Yeah, that mighta been me:

2017 sure is S&V's year. They get a huge ship, win worlds, still have the top ship, and get fixes for their three lesser ships (scyk in the CROC and these guys).

Sorry 'bout that.

It's not their year, it's SCUMWING now.

2017 has been a pretty scummy year so far. Just saying.

The blank are the 6 new scum ships.

Kinda, yeah.

I just thought of an interesting trend I havent considered, everyone I play with regularly are so hyper focused with their tourney lists, that when they just want to relax and have fun playing, never are Wave 8 plus Scum ships or Biggs lists even considered....by myself or anyone I know well. So maybe they're becoming somewhat toxic to our fun, even to we who select and practice flying them?

You can't go posting stuff like that.

I've used up all my likes for today.

Hell yeah :D

-A Rebel Veterans

-Scum Epic #2

-2 episode 8 tie-in ships

and Wave 12.

thats my prediction for the missing products.

I say they are all single upgrade cards.

One is a new version of Horton S with an EPT

Most people are just upset because 12 of top 16 lists at worlds were scum lists. And now they are only getting better with CROC, Scurgg, and now Guns4Hire, meanwhile Imps get a TLT carrier and rebels get ANOTHER 1 agility ship to fly around with Biggs.

FFG cant predict what Worlds top 16 will look like (even though we all could :P), and these expansions have been planned and tested for a year probably, so it's just bad timing.

On the other hand, not a single (currently spoiled) card in there does anything to buff any ship in the top 16 at worlds. AGree with the second half.

My problem with all of the Scum love is that I feel they're getting fixes to EVERYTHING where a lot of other ships are really languishing and have been for ages.

The X-wing, namesake of the game has been weak since nearly the beginning. But the fixes for it have been weaksauce. Integrated astromech was nice (though it's a pain in the *** to get enough copies), but the X-wing just doesn't have the maneuverability or action economy options to hang with other ships in its points bracket. Likewise, the Rebel Transport gave us a nice droid and some fun pilot abilities, but didn't really fix any of it's glaring problems.

Likewise, the E-wing has largely been DOA. Corran Horn's ability is good enough to offset the weakness of the ship in a few specific builds, but its sad that he's the only pilot ever seen.

Y-wings are reliant upon Stresshog and TLT builds, but otherwise terrible.

HWK still sucks. With low survivability, a crappy action bar, arguably the worst maneuver dial in the game, and the absolute worst primary weapon in the game, it's too easy to kill for the amount of points you put into it.

Bwings and Z-95s are also languishing. Sabine's TIE fighter pretty much makes the Z-95 obsolete in it's points bracket.

The quality of the Empire fixes has been much better and for the Defender, TIE Bomber, TIE Fighter, and TIE Advanced, as well as a few general TIE class upgrades that work on multiple platforms. That's cool.

The problem is that whatever fix the Rebels might have gotten, has been continually pushed back to make room for the new tie-in products featuring the newest rebel protagonists from the movies and TV shows. I was incredibly disappointed to see "Heroes of the Rebellion" alongside "Imperial Veterans". Rebels didn't need a new Falcon nearly as much as they needed "Rebel Veterans". I actually do think Heroes of the Rebellion is cool, but I'm beginning to lose hope of ever seeing a non-Biggs X-wing on the table ever again.

X-wing showed up twice in the top 16 at worlds.

Corran was at the top table at worlds the last 2 years and has been a top tier pilot for a lot of hte time since he's been out. And just missed the cut this year (#20).

Y-wing might only be used as the stresshog, but the stresshog is used a lot.

Palob was in the top 16 at worlds this year, and showed up a couple more times in the 7-2s.

B-wings and Z95s didn't do a lot at worlds, but rebel jank with both of those ships has done pretty well this last season (though mostly from blair)

You know what's never been seen in the cut at worlds in any form? Or at pretty much any other major tournament? The Kihraxz. Or the StarViper. I'm not saying none of the rebel ships above need any love, but they at least see competitive play even if it's only with 1 pilot each. That's way ahead of the 2 ships in guns for hire.
