SCUM Purchase

By Barby007, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi everyone! I haven't played X-Wing in 2 years & decided to get back in this weekend. I've always played Imperials but decided to get back in by playing Scum since I had never played Scum before. So far I have only purchased the "Most Wanted" pack. What are some essentials for Scum to pick up? I don't want to spend too much money but want to have something strong enough for tournament play.

Thank you,

Barby :)

I'm no expert but I really like a pair of Protectorate Starfighters.

It depends on what type of list you're trying to build, but the jumpmaster is a going to be a must have for decent scum lists. If you want to build mindlink lists, you'll probably need 2. Personally, I love flying the YV-666 and the lancer class.

If you're looking to build for a tournament, I would recommend you build your list on an app and buy whatever ships/upgrades you are missing.

I just got the Shadowcaster and a Protectorate Starfighter a few weeks ago. Haven't regretted it one bit.

Like I said, I've been out of X-Wing for a couple of years now so I don't really know what's good especially with Scum. Around the time I quit, scum had just come out & it was hard to keep up with all the new stuff. For tournament I'm not looking to win considering how long ago I've played but I'm looking for at least a list of something somewhat competitive. I just don't want to spend way too much money and have to own every single ship. Just the must haves. I figured since, Scum really doesn't have a starter other than "Most Wanted", I would pick it up since it automatically came with three ships and a bunch of cards. It seems like starfighters are across the border needed. Firespray needed??? Realistically, are any of the bigger expensive ships needed?

Thanks,

Barby

As someone else mentioned, the Jumpmaster 5000 is exceptionally good. It comes in the expansion called The Punishing One. The last two World Champions each flew lists which consisted of two Jumpmasters. The ship is, in fact, widely considered too good. The Lancer-Class Pursuit Craft (from the Shadowcaster expansion) is also quite nice with some nifty pilots and new mechanics in the Mobile Firing Arc. Sounds like you're already sold on the Protectorate Starfighter - a fantastic interceptor with a real in-your-face flying style. If I were in your situation, I'd check out some matches on Youtube involving these three different ships and see which catches your fancy and make purchases accordingly.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of videos & it's boring seeing 3 Jumpmaster vs 3 Jumpmasters kitted the exact same way. I like being a bit different & unique in my competitiveness. I'll most likely play 1 Jumpmaster but 3 is just boring. I guess if all you are about is winning, it works. LOL! Like I said, I want to be competitive but not boring. hahaha Anyways, thanks for all the tips guys! I really appreciate it.

Something you need to get and everyone has failed to mention is a Starviper. Not only is the ship decent and getting a buff later this year it is also the only ship pack to have Autothrusters in it. It comes with a pair of them. For a solid build I would suggest one Starviper and two protectorate. If you run more than two ships with a boost action on it you may need to get two Starvipers depending on how the list is built.

Yes...as said in above post... I have always had two Starvipers and have always loved them the dail is and always has been amazing. Now with the new title makes them even better. It's safe to say after that get one of each ship... All the cards that come with the ships are great. Everyone is different just stick to what you know best... I love my Vipers with a Jumpmastee now...

Depend if you want to proxy a bit when starting.

This build is extremely beginner friendly and quite competitive:

Syndicate Thug — Y-Wing 18
Twin Laser Turret 6
Unhinged Astromech 1
Ship Total: 25
Syndicate Thug — Y-Wing 18
Twin Laser Turret 6
Unhinged Astromech 1
Ship Total: 25
Asajj Ventress — Lancer-class Pursuit Craft 37
Push the Limit 3
Latts Razzi 2
Rigged Cargo Chute 1
Engine Upgrade 4
Shadow Caster 3
Ship Total: 50

As an update. I now currently own the Most Wanted pack (1 Y-wing & 2 Z-95 Headhunters), 1 Slave I, 1 Hwk-290, 1 Protectorate Starfighter, & 1 Jump Master. Any good list builds with this acquisition?

Fenn Rau + Contracted Scout + Palob or Kavil.

Mix in a medium pan on high heat.

Add 3 cups of Attanni Mindlink and a stalk of Twin Laser Turret (modified) until scum rises to the top and all opponents are cooked off.

Season with Torpedoes to taste.

Sprinkle with a custom paint job and serve hot.

Custom Paint Job should be a title that could be applied to any scum ship. Jussayin'...

What upgrades on what ships?

Also, I went to a local tournament & imperials are very much the stronger faction. They came in first, second, & fourth place. There were 8 players, 4 imperial, 2 scum, 2 rebel. The scum players were not playing Jumpmasters.
