Ok, so I finally followed through with my threat at a local tournament, traded in my T-65s and borrowed two TIE Phantoms so I could fly four Sigma sqdns as a list. Having never used the list before, I walked in and shattered a Ventress/Sessiru/Fenn Rau and a Rey/Poe list combined in just over an hour accumulated time while losing one Phantom. Nervousness of approaching 16 red dice was obviously a factor as it knocked both players off their game and they made mistakes on approach that they normally would not.
I of course lost my next two games, the first game due to a tactical error on my part and the good flying of my opponent. The last game due to a misidentification of which Y-Wing had TLT, again my fault, and thus made a great tactical blunder. Both games I feel I had a chance had a flown better, despite the terrible losses of 100-37 and 100-38.
The problem is, I liked the list.
- It's simple - cloaking is an action I pretty much ignore after I turn in to face my opponent
- It hits hard enough to concern some pretty big ships
- It has enough ships that I can afford to lose one and still be effective
- The dial is similar enough to an X-Wing that I adapted ok having rarely used them, though I will admit I missed the 1 straight
I walked out of the store with a newly purchase TIE Phantom, thus giving me three. Any suggestions on a supporting piece as a 4th ship? I thought about Colzet, as the odds are I'm going to have damage cards down on the target if the target is still in front of me. 25 points free is too little for Omega Leader in any effective form. I could take Pure Sabbac, but I expect this will be a mistake despite throwing as many dice as a TIE Phantom. Maybe a shuttle with operations officer?
Throw some ideas at me. I accept and embrace crazy.
