Cannot Get Your Ship Out 5/28 - 6/3

By Snipafist, in Star Wars: Armada

...Considering going back to a monthly forum post for these (in which case maybe a June topic next?), I'll talk with @geek19 and we'll see.

Anyways, it's weapon team upgrades time !

Clarifying exactly what the monthly format would be

Good read!

Love the flavor text for ordinance experts, got a good chuckle.

Good read... I like vet gunners on Ackbar assault frigate, seems underused there...

I'd go with Gunnery Team on an Ackbar Assault Frigate like 100% of the time, personally. Won't always work, of course, but being able to tap two different targets with 5 red dice is pretty good. Slap a dice-fixer turbolaser in there (DTTs or maybe even TRCs) and you're ready to roll.

Skycake's normally dealing with the likes of me, who only gives him one target in an arc at a time, but where solid dice rolling with that arc will beat the snot out of me :D

I prefer to Ackbar slash :D

Actually, I want to take this apart a little more...

Ackbar gungan teams vs Ackbar veteran gunners.

Both builds are capable of targeting two different ships. But with veteran gunners one of those attacks will get a reroll. with gunnery teams you are at the mercy of red dice hell overlords... The price for rerolling is that you must fly in a certain way (slash), while gunnery provides more flexibility while flying(slash or swirl).

So i think both are valid here. I would lean towards the vets gunners because red dice are high variance and rerolls smooth that variance out.

Also, I wonder if vet gunners combos well with h9 on that build as well?

Sensor Team can only work on one of its ships attacks and requires you to "smoosh" two dice together to get a single accuracy icon, which you will note does nothing to assist its damage output .

Rubbish. This has categorically been proved to be false on some ships. Accuracing a brace DOUBLES the damage under certain circumstances.

Dude, I really don't care about how much you like Sensor Teams. They're generally awful.

Uh oh. Somebody talked **** about sensor teams...

This is irrelevant to Sensor teams.

Reliably generating accuracies is one of the key ways to increase the threat of your ships. Argue the cost of Sensor teams is too high, dont argue against a game fundamental, which is what you did.

More damage is frequently useful. Another accuracy you need to effectively dedicate two dice towards isn't frequently useful. You need a situation where the extra accuracy is helpful (so it won't do much against a pair of identical fresh defense tokens, for example) AND there's enough damage left in the pool for that accuracy to be meaningful AND for that to be a superior use of 5 points and your weapon team slot compared to other options. That doesn't happen frequently.

That is a very good assessment. What you wrote was different.

Sorry, I just get really fustrated when people paint it as an always awful card and that discarding two dice is always bad. Its not. Things arent that black and white.

Awwwwwwwwwww

That's fair. I'll update the wording on that section to the more nuanced explanation.

In my defense, I don't generally like Sensor Team but I feel like I explained that they it does have its uses, even if some are niche. I don't try to come to the "this sucks and it's basically garbage" conclusion because most things have uses even if their ability to be overall useful is very limited or extremely meta-specific to the point where it's not good in a take-all-comers fleet but might be good if your meta is dominated by a specific kind of build.

I think that Veteran Gunners is one of the underused cards. I flew it at Worlds on ISD2 and it did work out nice. The key to it (in my thinking) is to have additional ways to modify dice to minimize its drawback.

So, for example, DTT for spot fixes, and Vader/Leading Shots/TRCs* also?

*as applicable

I mean it's already over, for what it's worth. Gink came out strong, I came back strong, we kind of muddled our way to an understanding and now the article is amended and thus better and everyone's all right.

I'm disappointed that NOBODY posted the Michael Jackson popcorn gif. Come on guys, you're letting me down here!

That was delayed in posting, I wrote it before you settled down. I was also on mobile, therefore did not have it on hand, and place all responsibility on @Madaghmire :P

Yes, however I would add SW7 to the mix and drop Leading Shots (in my mind Veteran Gunners is a replacement to it and not an addition, as the whole point is to avoid removing a die from a pool)
