Triple Ion-Defenders

By Hotziggety, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I was flying triple x7 Defenders until stress lists and bumpmasters were being fielded and thought that maybe the triple ion cannon delta defenders would be a reasonable alternative in the current meta. I was wondering if those who are better at this game than me could support this thought or deny it. The list a have been flying to reasonable success lately is the following:

TIE Defender: Delta Squadron Pilot (30)
Ion Cannon (3)
TIE/D (0)
TIE Defender: Delta Squadron Pilot (30)
Ion Cannon (3)
TIE/D (0)
TIE Defender: Delta Squadron Pilot (30)
Ion Cannon (3)
TIE/D (0)
-- TOTAL ------- 99p. --

Lots of dice, but lots of variance as well. I think two tie Ds and a third ship is better, imo. But triple Ds is hell of alot of fun!

Colonel Vessery (35) w/ Adaptability (0) , Tractor Beam (1) , TIE/D (0)

Countess Ryad (34) w/ Predator (3) , Flechette Cannon (2) , TIE/D (0)

"Deathfire" (17) w/ Extra Munitions (2) , Ion Pulse Missiles (3) , Proximity Mines (3) , Long-Range Scanners (0)

Total: 100

-------------------------------------

"Countdown" (20) w/ Targeting Computer (2) , Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Colonel Vessery (35) w/ Adaptability (0) , Tractor Beam (1) , Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1) , TIE/D (0)

Maarek Stele (TIE Defender) (35) , Predator (3) , Flechette Cannon (2) , Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1) , TIE/D (0)

Total: 100

The board control is great. The only issue is that you have one action on a 2 attack ship. It makes it harder for those attacks to consistently hit. It's why I prefer Vessery as the Tie/D pilot of choice. 2 attacks that have TL's is so much more consistent.
