Heyo, Alino here! So I was wondering.... what's the plan for long-term balance? I mean the game feels balanced to me atm (But keep in mind I'm just a new player) but how will they handle new editions with the way they sell ships?
For example, in 40k, everything is set up in a codex and they constantly release new codexes (And after 3 - 6 years we get a new edition) but it seems like that'd be hard in this game, considering that each unit comes with its own cards and such, so here's my big question
Will we see an X-Wing 2.0 Edition or some equivalent in the future? And, if so, how would it be done? If not - why not?
A question about balance.
Deep and thought provoking inquiry there @Alino , I don't have the capacity to tackle it....but there is a few issues in balance that are debatable, but one that is not...it's like the huge kid on the see-saw that makes the other kids fly off and get hurt or get stuck in the air and cry; they are at his whim; the teachers see what's going on, but just hope he'll be nice.
Is it three kids with blue faces and they think similarly?
@clanofwolves
I was thinking that the easiest thing to do would be that, if we get a 2.0 edition, they'd just slowly need to transition ships from 1.0 to 2.0 with new and updated cards and such, while removing the 1.0 versions from the game.
Basically, I think the easiest thing to do would be 4 starter sets for 2.0 edition. One traditional starter set (2 tie fighters and an x-wing) and then 3 faction-specific starter sets. Rebels could get 2 X-Wings and 1 Y-Wing, Empire could get 1 Tie Advanced and 2 Tie Fighters, and Scum could get 2 Khiraxz Fighters and 1 M3-A Interceptor.
These would be the 'start' of 2.0 Edition (so in the first wave of 2.0 we'd have 6 different models: X-Wing, Y-Wing, Tie Advanced, Tie Fighter, Khiraxz Fighter, MS-A Interceptor)
Then, they could continue releasing 1.0 models into 2.0 with all the 2.0 stuff (and only stuff released in 2.0 would be valid for 2.0)
I realize that my idea would leave people angry, and would make the first year or so of 2.0 tournaments kinda predictable (But refreshing) but I personally think this would be the best way of doing things, and I think 2.0 is the farthest we'd need to go with editions simply because they'd know how to balance things ALOT better now for the 2.0 edition.
If there is a 2.0, I don't want to buy new models. I'll buy new cards, maybe new cardboard ... but if I have to buy my entire collection over I'm out.

Well then it could be something like my idea, but they could also sell the cards and cardboard separate (for those that already have the models) and they could be cheaper than buying models (ya know, like 'X-Wing Card/Tokens set' for 5 bucks or something.)

My plan for long term balance (not that FFG is asking) would be to diversify 100/6 play. In such a tiny tactical arena, only a few ships at a time are ever any good. Diversity in list building requires diversity in strategy, of which there is currently only 1: fly around 6 rocks and kill the other guy to a man.
I think a 2.0/Revised/Updated/Expanded/whatever you want to call it will happen. . .but who knows when.

As would nearly everyone be. They just can't go that route. The reboot would have to be cardboard only. I do like Alino's idea of 2.0 boxes. You might get some rereleased ships (repaints!! yay!!!) but then a lot of cardboard to bring everything else up to spec.

Even 40k has finally abandoned that model, its nearly impossible to balance things that way and people get tired of the way their stuff works changing every couple years. FFG's current method of spot buffing ships which seem to be underperforming with maybe a nerf to something on the rare occasion while while steadily adding new ships over time is working fine and I see no reason they would or should change it. The closest thing we've gotten to a new edition was the TFA box and that's probably as close as it gets.
