Future Purchases

By stet2, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Been planning out my future purchases. Unfortunately, I can't fully plan everything out at the moment as we don't yet know the formations or costs of the Deepwoods Archers.

Waiqar: With the models I already have the following purchases should take me up to 400 points of Waiqar (without using Ankaur Maro's force build ability).

1 x Ankaur Maro, 1 x Carrion Lancers, 1 x Reanimates (for upgrades and 2 Trays for raising), 2 x Death Knights.

Daqan: Although I haven't currently planned out my army I intend to use an allied unit of Deepwoods Archers for some ranged attack. As a result I think my future Daqan puchases will be:

1 x Lord Hawthorne, 1 x Heavy Crossbows, 1 x Rune Golems, possibly 1 x Spearmen depending on how many points the Deepwoods Archers are.

As we haven't seen all the units for the Latari as yet my current plan for future purchases is:

2 x Army Box, 1 x Maegan Cyndewin

What is everyone else planning?

Currently investing only in waiqar. Here's what I've got:

2x core sets, 2x command, 1x Archers

I plan on 1x Maro, 1x Lancer, and between 2-4x reanimates(I want to fill the back row of a max size reanimate horde).

I want scions and golems to add in with maro as well, but my wallet says no.

I can see the appeal for Rune Golems and Scions but I just can't get my head around it "fluff/theme" wise.

Before the Death Knights were previewed I was planning to use Ankaur to add in a cavalry unit but the role I wanted them for was easily filled by those cool undead Knights.

Just find it more aesthetically pleasing for the undead army not to have "allies".

I don't plan to cross build armies at this point so both Mauro and Kari's abilities are weak for me. I am glad Alaina's is soo cool.

I have one core set and command for both. I plan to buy another core, each hero, 2 elf staters and command and hero for elves.

Ye olde shopping list:

  • 2x Core is a no-brainer for Daqan (trade away the Waiqar to a friend)
  • 2x Cavalry gives enough for a pair of 2x2 or a 3x3 with Lord Hawthorne
  • 2x Infantry Command for plenty of upgrade options
  • 3x Crossbows for a pair of 3x1 or a 3x2
  • 1x Rune Golems, not sure if I'll need more
  • 1x Lord Hawthorne, definitely won't need more

and that's about $300 right there, without even getting extra spearmen.

I'm sitting on 2x core like most and I already picked up the Daqan infantry command. Beyond that I'm looking at getting 3-4 x Spearmen, 2x cavalry, 3x crossbowmen, hawthorne, and probably another command. I'm not really liking the rune golems (beyond how they look) but I may have to grab a kit if the cards are good.

I think that puts me at $275 or so. If they do end up making an orc or any tyranid-esque faction I'm going to be in big trouble.

Got 2x core of undead and purchased 2 archers and 2 infantry commands.

I'll get 2 reanimates, 1 carrion lancer, and 1 Maro.

I'll play with that and see if I need anymore.

My idea is to get at least as much expansions for a single unit type to be able to field a complete unit of that type.

So far, I have 2 Coresets, 2 Infantry Commands each for both Waiqar and Daqan as well as 2 boxes of Oathsworn and 1 box of Archers.

In General I plan on collecting all Factions to promote the game in my local area! Does anyone know how well (or not) the game has sold so far?

All you have to do is paint them as undead. You can easily do an undead tree or golem. And of course any squishy infantry can also be painted as undead.

A store in San Antonio sold 12 copies of cores in a week

No need to react this way. I just joined and didn't check if this has been asked severel times before.

I'm sure everyone (including both of us) is hoping that this game is a success!

How did I react? Just saying we have a couple players is all. :)

Maro and one of those Elf Ent things, except dead and all moldy. Painting challenge accepted!

Just a note: Lord Hawthorne will be a figure upgrade in the Cavalry, meaning his figure will be put on a cavalry tray and replace a regular Cavalry figure. You will need 9 trays of Cavalry to get a 3x3 block, with or without Hawthorne.

I'm grabbing one of everything Waiqar and then more as I see fit. Though it will probably end up being 2 of everything. Already getting 2 Death Knights, already got 2 archers and I'm planning to get a second Infantry Command Upgrade pack.

Yeahhhhh... you're probably right. I was imagining it would be like the heavy support upgrades and take up a whole tray.

I have one core and one of each Infantry Unit Upgrade expansions. I will definitely get a second core and a pack of archers, as well as Ankaur and 2x Reanimates. I want to stick with Waiqar, but the Daqan have always been my second favorite faction, so I think I will dabble in them as well.

If you hold off a bit, cavalry still need some kind of banner upgrade, so I'm expecting a cavalry upgrade pack at some point, with a mounted bannerman and a mounted champion. That'll get you the ninth tray and a model to sit next to Hawthorne in it.

Well Tritex games in the UK just sent me an E-mail with the newest releases on. So it's time to dip into my wallet (again).

I bought 4 extra trays of Spearmen (to go with the ones from my 2 cores) when the original game came out and as I'm collecting all armies there are no upgrades in the Spearmen expansion that I won't have multiple copies of eventually. So as with the Oathsworn Cavalry I decided to pass on the Spearmen expansion (weird really as I'm actually playing Daqan at the moment rather than Waiqar).

I bought the Reanimates to give me a couple of trays for raising and for the Lingering Dead upgrade and obviously I bought the 2 heroes.

May get expensive on the rest of the Waiqar/Daqan releases though as it'll probably be at least a "twofer" on most. If I decide to use Kari's ability to add Deepwood Archers then I may just go for 1 Crossbows at first.

Raven Tabards and Tempered steel are not bad and in the Spearmen Expansion.

Due to the cheapness of the models i feel i can get away with collecting atleast a list worth of every race. That way i can demo any race.

However i mainly go after humans.

For Waiqar i have:
4 trays Reanimates (for some reason my flgs got everything this wave except them...was planning on getting 2 expansions)
4 trays Archers
1 Command box
Maro/Ardus
--Still cant field 200pts without borrowing as of right now but i also rather a little of everything if i plan to demo them anyway so need space for DKs. Actually then again i might be able to if i run both heroes but that wouldnt be a wise idea since Maro has no extra trays atm to add lol

For Daqan i have:
12 trays Spearmen
2 Command boxes
6 trays Cavalry
Kari/Hawthorne
--Its amazing how seemingly massing one army is compared to another when you went halvsies on a core so you have 2 cores of one faction but not the other lol

They are but I already have a copy of each from the Waiqar Command and Reanimate Archers respectively and will get another 2 copies from the Latari and Uthuk armies. As I don't need the miniatures and there are no non-generic upgrades I don't feel it is value for money (at least for me).

Yeah the spearmen box was a let down in regards to the upgrades...nothing daqan specific or unique to the box..

As someone who is collecting all the first 4 factions, it sucks that they need to put the same neutral upgrades in every faction. I understand the necessity of it, but it's super lame to open a box and have nothing new to drool over. I mean, I did want a couple more trays of spearmen, but in contrast the reanimates box was way more fun!

For me, that's the beauty of faction specific upgrades. They're thematic. FFG doesn't have to stick it in every box for the rest of forever. They increase the uniqueness of each faction. I get new stuff to drool over. I really hope they increase the amount of faction specific stuff we get in the future. I know we're getting some more here and there, but it'd be awesome if the tempo of that increased.

but I don't even think that is my issue, its just there the spearmen didn't have really ANY uniqueness to the upgrade it was just like this was the catch all expansion for some neutral cards...
