Any ideas for countering the new IG?

By JarJarBot, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

So after trouncing my friend a few times using IG-Fixed he's decided to use him in his next list. I also know that 2 others have a high chance of using him in our next tournament and wanted to hear other people's ideas on what a counter for him would be.

I'm half tempted to use a variation of Luke's Finest because that's what he was using and I want to see if I could beat an IG list with it.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Also, if your store championship was tomorrow, what would you be running?

Having dabbled with the new IG for a few games, I've seen how he really goes on a tear from Round 2 onwards if you get him in a good position to be in the thick of the fighting. His 2 free movement points and auto-focus really let you set up some damaging Assaults if your opponent has too many figures up close and personal.

The ideal scenario is to have Initiative on Round 2 and activate IG last on Round 1 to get him up super close to execute a good Assault on the next turn, and every turn thereafter. Knowing that he's so good, he'll also probably be targeted by your opponent and get mowed down, so know that you're sending him to his doom in that sense, so drop that Blaze of Glory and take as many of them with you as you can. You should be able to also get off an Order Hit with Jabba in that same round as well, so 5 attacks with IG before he goes up in smoke is what you want.

Countering this, you need to know that IG is coming in hot and don't leave a bunch of squishy targets together in the same room. Jedi Luke can make short work of IG as well. You'll want some Pierce attacks to help deal with his +1 Block and the ability to get harmful conditions on IG like Bleed and Stun to force the IG player to potentially give up an attack to clear the condition.

What makes IG great now is that you get a lot of bang for your buck but it's not invincible by any means, so IG isn't ruining the meta game, just putting another option on the table.

I recently had a game with IG where I had devious scheme and used IG last on round one to get him up close to my opponents weequays and HKs and with blaze of glory on round one shredded through both HKs in the first 2 shots then at the beginning of round 2 shredded both of his weequays in 2 more shots. It was horrific even on my side of the table. As the poster above me said, dont bunch up squishy targets otherwise they might not see their next activation. Someone did use jedi luke against him and round 2 ran up to him for a large 8 damage hit with command cards and used son of skywalker to put me in a pickle. The question I have is, is IG-88 just a ranged Luke? 7 movement + 1 attack at range with an automatic strain if IG is close enough with 2 chosen dice and a green die with only 1 fewer hp and a son of skywalker equivalent that deals 3 damage to IG at the end of the round (which is much worse). It almost looks like if Luke and IG were on opposite sides the player that ran up to the other character and used their Son of Skywalker or Blaze of glory would take out the other and run away with at least a sliver of health.

I've seen this play out and it will definitely come down to whether one of those characters goes into the duel without their command card. It's worth forcing the engagement if you have yours, as any delays will make it easier for your opponent to draw into their needed "counter" to that meat grinder.

Of course, this is why I still maintain that Spy's are the underrated trait currently, and will always do well by way of cancelling your opponent's clutch plays after they over commit to them.

If I wasn't so burnt out on Agent Blaise I would still have fun shutting down those moves.

Here's hoping the Rebels can bring it back strong with Ahsoka in the Heart release.

I think that for all of these kinds of matchups--with powerful pieces that can take a few hits and also hit hard--it really comes down to timing. Obviously having the key command cards is important, and so is a bit of luck, but you really shouldn't depend on those things, since you can't control them (you can help the CC situation with good terminal control).

It's really going to come down to timing: if you can get one of them to start the fight after the other has already activated, you're well set to win it. If you send either Luke or Iggy in before the other has activated, you're likely going to lose, unless you also have a way to get some other heavy hitters in there right afterward. When played well, either Iggy or Luke can win the game for their squad, so it's going to be a bit of a chess match.

Anything with pierce

Luke's Finest? What's that?

ive found that if you can stave off Blaze of Glory, IG goes down about as fast now to most things, especially with a little Pierce on board

Luke's Finest is some variation of

Luke

eRangers

eEcho

Gideon

C3PO
