Dancing Poe vs Regen Poe

By ModernPenguin, in X-Wing

Hi guys.
I've been playing with poe as the sidekick to expertise rey.

I've been playing with dancing poe for the fun of it, but just for the sake of discussion. What is best?

Dancing:

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33)
Push the Limit (3)
BB-8 (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Total: 42

Regen:

Poe Dameron (31)
Predator (3)
R5-P9 (3)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Total: 42

Cons and pros:

Dancing is much more mobile, and sheds TL like it was no ones business (which is good against the amount of ordinance flying aroound!). The damage output is potentially greater with TL/Focus, and the ability to BR/push into a block makes the focus token a bit more reliable to get. PS 9 helps against Fenn, Dengar/tel, whisper and so on.

Regen is potentially stronger, with rerolls on predator, and keeping focus every round. It's weaknesses are lower PS at 8, easier to block to get the all important focus token and less flexibility.

Which is better in your opinion?
Please add more pros and cons ;)

Cheers

I personally value the regen super high, so always R5 or R2.

Does Poe stay close to Rey? If not I have to encourage Hyper Poe.

PS9 Poe with Lone Wolf, PA, AT, B1, R2/R5

Thats my favorite until Prime Intensity Poe.

Try Poe with:

PoeDameron (PS9) - PTL, R2-D2, Vectored Thrusters, Primed Thrusters, Black One

Dancing Regen Poe. It is what I have been running with my Dash/Poe build to great success

Dancing Poe is a bit stronger against stress thanks to his arc-dodging capabilities and Primed Thrusters; and he's also strong in any one-on-one battle so long as he moves second, since he can very easily reposition to get an unanswered shot or, failing that, a bump. That said, he takes a huge hit to long-run durability ; losing out on regen is a big deal on a ship with only six health and two agility, especially when you're clocking in at 42 points. R5-P9 is very vulnerable to stress, though, which can be a pretty big issue.

In this meta, and flown next to Rey, I think I would prefer Regen Poe. It's a hammer-and-anvil list, which means that both ships need to be capable of tanking effectively. With regen, it's possible for Poe to tank a few rounds of fire while Rey dishes out the hurt, and, more importantly, he becomes a pretty nasty end-gamer. Dancing Poe is really good end-game, but only against ships at a lower PS than him; and I don't think there's a reliable way for a Rey-Poe list to kill off threats like that before the endgame.

On the other hand, dancing Poe is way more fun.

(Also, as a side note, it might be worthwhile to reconfigure that regen Poe a bit. Dropping a point on Rey for R2-D2 might be worth it depending on how much stress is in your local meta; and I'd also consider PtL over Predator. With Pattern Analyzer, you still end the turn unstressed, plus you can target lock -- better than Predator in a high-PS meta -- or boost to proq Black One.)

Currently regen Poe is better. When intensity comes out that may change. Having an evade with his focus and autothrusters is pretty tanky. Dancing Poe will end up the norm I been believe.

I'll reference you to an article i wrote a long time ago covering both BB-8 and Regen Poe:

Basically the jist is that then, which is even more true now thanks to Pattern Analyzer and Primed Thrusters existing, that being able to maneuver really well won't save you from being shot at every time, and you'll have very little in the way to protect yourself from taking that damage when it does happen. Modern Regen Poe is capable of being very maneuverable, but also carries the regen as a way to mitigate the long-term effect that taking damage will have, and allows Poe to close the game in such as way that dodgy Poe cannot. Remember, at the end of the day, Regen Poe still has boost available to him as well, so it's not that he can't maneuver at all.

In short, there are very few, if any, times that dancing Poe is better than or even equal to Regen Poe.
