FFG We want to buy boxes at Gencon

By HidaYama, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

@FFGEvan

Many of us missed out for one reason or another on the GenCon L5R tournaments to get a box. I am creating this topic for us to post how many boxes we are wanting to purchase at GenCon, so FFG can print a better number of boxes for sale at GenCon.

I know it is not 100% confirmed that FFG will be selling boxes at GenCon, so please do not post to this forum stating so. This post will serve to encorage FFG to sell at GenCon if they arew not already intending to do so, and give them a better picture of how many boxes to print for sale at GenCon.

That being said. Please just post how many boxes you want to buy at GenCon.

I want to buy 2 Core Set L5R boxes at GenCon.

You do realize that the Gen Con print run is most likely done right?

They may have time to make an additional print run. It is two months away.

I think you underestimate the time taken to ship things around. Also, the difficulty of getting immediate printing. IIRC (from discussions on the Catalyst site), there are queues for the sort of places that can do LCGs, and if you want to get something done in a rush you need to bump other people. Bumping print runs requires compensation, so the cost of your run just increased a lot.

I recall print run schedules being around 5-6 months minimum in general based on FFG's historical release pattern. They print everything in China very far ahead of time.

lol this thread

they've said it'll be on sale at gencon. multiple times. chill out guys. stop demanding FFG do anything. they want you to have the game. they're gonna do everything in their power to get it into as many hands as possible. you really think they aren't going to try and have as many copies out there as possible before the big friday tournament.

Like every other LCG they've launched, there will be boxes for sale, probably 1 per person. Limited numbers, long lines that'll make you miss other events. The print run is done, and even if it's the largest ever in history, it'll sell out and some people will feel cheated and demand reparations. It takes 6 months between pulling the trigger and boxes on shelves, so expect to wait. There will be multiple print runs of the Core.

It will be on sale in their booth. Go there and get a copy. It's right by the doors conveniently.

That and you have to figure they wanted to make sure the look of the game was perfect before sending it to the print factory. And they needed to actually design the game and cards first. Yeah, I'm really glad they gave themselves two years on this.

Heh, if it's like last year (or was it the year before?) and the Game of Thrones Second Edition release, you will not be able to just walk in and buy them. As I recall, the only line routinely longer than FFG's is Paizo's. My son and I spent the entire GenCon weekend just trying to drop in and demo New Angeles last year, and the line for people buying GoT second edition boxes stretched around the area twice.

Personally, I'm not even going to try to get it at GenCon. I can pick it up at my local retailer the next week.

Good luck with that. It's scheduled for a late 2017 release, so I wouldn't expect it any sooner than October.

A-ha, well, then I guess i won't get it until then? "The next week" was a figure of speech (though, if I'd thought about it, I would have realized that it wouldn't be in retail until at least October, because GenCon's not until August this year).

But it doesn't change the rest of what I said, I'm not going to spend a day at GenCon to get through a packed line to maybe get one box (no disrespect intended to the people who do intend to do it). But the idea that people will just walk up and get one is laughable - even though the area is by the doors, expect to stand in line for a good chunk of the day.

I was thinking of loading up my iPad with music videos to serve up some entertainment for the people near me in line at least.

I was in line for a popular ride at a theme park once and a guy (not sure if he was a plain-clothes employee or another guest) just had a deck of standard playing cards that he used to do magic tricks for people around him. If you have to spend time in line anyway, having some entertainment to share can be a pretty good idea!

I never said nor implied there wouldn't be a line. That seems pretty obvious. But you can still goto the booth and get one.

Mid October will be the latest it releases if they plan on L5R world champs in Nov. (Which I'm positive they are)

True, but your wording suggested it would be a simple affair, so that a first-time goer might not have anticipated dropping a whole day on it.

Well, if your whole program for Thursday was L5R, that leaves you plenty of time for lining up to buy the box...
