Not everyone rotates games like that. I've been waiting for years for a lcg to play again.
Sold Out

I'm saying a new Core for any game. I know a lot of people who played Netrunner jumped on GoT 2.0 train. They've since fallen off of both and moved on to Arkham. They are now planning on doing L5R.
FFG is more interested in people buying new Core sets over and over than setting up long term competitive environments.
I don't agree with that at all. As a long term Star Wars player and playtester.
From the other post, pretty much same topic:
Not going to GenCon, even though I'm only about 120 miles away. I feel really bad for those of you that were only going for New5R, though, and weren't able to get slots. Not that that does anything for you. For those of you that are going to make it, make sure you make the walls shake with your battle cries! I remember the Magic the gathering and VS crowds getting the $#!+ scared out of them during my first L5R GenCon experience.

FFG has said repeatedly that a majority of their LCG sales are to people that buy only one Core. Few people buy more than one and even fewer buy packs with any consistency.

Yep. This is also the answer to that incessant annoying question about why one Core can't contain a full playset.

I think LCGs started with the intention to make full playsets available cheaply in a space where paying big bucks for singles is standard practice, but LCGs have since morphed into more of a "board game" type experience over a "card game" one. It seems fairly clear from FFG's handling of their various product lines.
Edited by DanwarrI'm not sure that anyone is aware of this, but, the place that is holding GenCon has not been properly retrofitted to handle more than 350 rabid L5R fans screaming Utz/Banzai........maybe we should all tone it down a bit at these events?

Next year L5R will have to be played in the stadium!

Show me your stance, samurai!
haven't been to Gencon but everytime a local Kotei coincedes with MtG launch or other CG event, we would UTZ our lungs out over here just to see them other ccg communities' reaction..hoping our frenzy convert them to L5R players.
Maybe it's just me, but what would certainly help would be if FFG had an option for another event that was literally just "reserve a copy of the starter, limit 1 per person". Then I'd know I can at least play casually with other cool L5R fans that didn't make it in to the tourney.
Reserving a copy was my primary motivation for playing in the event and the largest factor for me going to GenCon. I'd be happy to at least know for a fact I'll have a copy my Gf and I can play during downtimes.
Hell I will loan out cards I'm not using if need be. But I'm sure there will be a ton of copies available in the booth. If anything people at the booth will have their cards sooner than the tournament attendees.
But the people who don't get in don't get to play in a story line event which is the real kicker.

This isn't accurate. The long-standing statement is most people who buy a core set never buy any expansions.
So we know they sell more core sets than any single expansion, but that doesn't mean core sets are the majority of their LCG sales.
Not complaining, but it seems I made a good decision when I decided to pass Gencon. You see, when I first heard of the new version of the game being released at GC, I was all hyped and willing to commit. Then, over time, I came to the conclusion that it was too much of an investment and no assurance I'd be able to get to buy/play the game. To those of you that are disappointed to have bought a badge, just imagine if you had commited money months ago to make an overseas plane flight from Europe!
Anyways, congrats to those of you that were able to get in. Have fun, and know we count on you to let us EVERYTHING!
FFG almost looks like Nintendo, making their fanbase fight for scarce items.
That "they only want to sell core sets" thing is no joke. I still wasn't able to buy my Dunwich Legacy box, it's like they don't want my money!
My biggest concern isn't access to the core set early. It is if there are only 8 koteis world wide am I going to be unable to support my clan and play in tourneys because i don't have a ticket bot working for me?

I don't believe that is possible -- Arkham wasn't available at GenCon last year. It was previewed, but it wasn't released until Arkham Nights, in October. Prior to that the only copies I'm aware of were in the hands of reviewers.

There will be other tournaments. Game kits quarterly, store championships, regionals, nationals, continentals, worlds in November at ffg HQ.
Will they be better prepared than this release?

There's nothin like unprepared about this. 350 is a large amount of seats. Only so much space available in the building.

Most of the events I listed are store level events. Store champs will be after worlds as that is when they start for the November track games.
One Story line event for a game that is literally shaped by player interaction for twenty some odd years and one grinder (which also sold out) with no demos or side competitions doesn't exactly show me that they want to run a robust Legend of the Five Rings scene. I came to Gencon to play L5R and all I have scheduled is a fourth edition module.
Hope this doesn't come out as gloating, but after a small scare I got in to the Thursday tourney it's doubly awesome because it's my first time at Gencon.
Wish everyone the best of luck!

You realize they don't have an unlimited amount of space allocated to them right?
