To buy or not to buy "The awakening" reprinted packs ?

By Elrad, in Star Wars: Destiny

Good Day everyone,

Some of you have spotted me here and there asking some questions about the game. So my situation is as follow : I bought several months ago two starter sets of SW:D but then the "The awakening" boosters were already out of their second print. So I played with my starters till "Spirit of the Rebellion" was released and I bought several boosters (ok two full boxes) and now I see that the third and final reprint of "The Awakening" is coming out very soon. My question is and seem rather personal :

Is it still interesting to delve into that first "season" now that I own a lot of cards/dice from SoR ?

Before you ask if I've checked the cards list in search of some that interest me, I'll say yes but not so many. I'm mainly looking for dark side red characters like AT-ST or Captain Phasma. Ok there are several interesting characters on both side in that series. I know they won't print it again after that so I'm hesitating...

What do you think ?

I personally didn't get much Awakenings stuff, and I only have a couple legendaries from it, so I'll probably buy a box, just to make sure I get some good trade fodder. That's just because I didn't buy as much at first though - I'm ready for Empire at War once my final preordered SoR box comes in on Monday.

In my opinion, there are still a lot of great cards form Awakenings. While trading, I see a lot of requests for cards from that set. I don't think you can really go wrong picking up a box. I'd procure it as soon as they become available, because their bound to sell out fairly quickly. However, if you are really only going after a few cards you might be bettr off trading for them or picking them up on eBay. I imagine Awakenings cards will be more plentiful and cheaper on the secondary market one the next wave hits.

Has there been any word as to when the new Awakenings boosters will be available? Previously it was mentioned to be June but not sure if that is still the case.

I am set on Awakenings. I ordered all the singles online because I was tired of hoping stuff would pop up and June was really far off. I am about set on SOR just getting the stuff I want to make different variants of my decks.

Kieransi are you the guy that played X-win?

Yeah, I still play X-Wing, any reason you ask? A good number of Destiny players I know also play X-Wing, and played that game first. My X-Wing hobby was what made me slow to get into Destiny as well, because each FFG Star Wars game just costs a lot of money, especially if you're a completionist!

I have quite a bit from Awakenings and plan to buy a box. I'm still missing half the legendary dice and could use a few more elite/doubles.

I'd imagine my extras will make for excellent trade bait once it's been out of print for a while.

I asked because. I have always been interested in playing X-wing. The ships look so cool and the new Core seems like a good way to get into the game. I almost gave up on Destiny when I could not get product and start playing X-wing instead. I am glad I waited because I love Destiny. But the lust to try X-wing is still there.

The money I have dropped on Destiny would make it hard to invest in X-wing the way I know I would want. I might be able to drop about $300 on X-wing if it could bet me a couple of Meta squads. Of course I would want the Team Covenant accessories which would be another $100 bucks easy.

Yes. There are a lot of core cards that are going to be used until Awakenings rotate. If you can't going to buy packs, you should at least try to get a hold of them via singles. This isn't neccasarily stuff like Legendaries (which you can usually build around something else), but things like 1 cost upgrades, dice control, spike damage cards etc. Not playing these is going to be a huge constraint on your deck, particularly because SOR tends towards more specialized/combo cards.

On the issue of the reprint...has anyone heard from distros or gaming stores about the reprint? We are only a few days away from June and I was hoping that some definite intel was available. Otherwise, I can't pretend to say "buy Awakenings - it's awesome" if it never actually comes out on sale. FFG did post on their official page that a resupply was coming in June to retailers...but I don't see anything since then or any update on their shipping/on the boat/etc system they have on their site. Anyone have intel they can/are willing to share?

thanks for all your answers everyone :-) I'll keep an eye on this.

@Impulse411 and others,

If you go on the website of Edge, the company that distributes SW:D and other FFG games, they say the products are printing and should release this trimester...So June is not yet there (ah ...it's on thursday^^), let's wait a bit more ;-)

EDIT : is there already another wave scheduled for 2017 or is it for 2018 ?

Thanks for the info, did not know about that site. Will watch for more info there...just thought the info would be delivered from FFG like SoR was. Thanks!

EDIT:

Actually, do you have a direct link? Searching Edge and FFG isn't getting the site I think you mean...guess a bit too generic to find that way. :) Thanks!

Clarification

If you already know what you want from Awakenings and its not much, then just buy the singles.

And the next set is due Q3/Q4 and its called Empire at War with a focus on the Rebels tv show.

Still missing a few from Awakenings so I will at the very least pick up a few packs. I still want Luke, and a second Vader.

Have a ton of awakenings I'm missing(managed to pull elite Jabba and Luke, but no other legendary characters), so definitely grabbing a few to round out my decks, especially Gaffi stick and jetpack.
