HotAC additions!

By ThalanirIII, in X-Wing

I'm currently 3 missions into my first ever HotAC playthrough with one additions to the game (any newer rebel pilot abilities allowed - subject to checking, e.g. Poe/Norra).

What additions to HotAC have you made to make it more interesting, balanced, fun, hilarious, etc? Anything from small to creating new mission arcs! Hopefully there'll be something to incorporate into my next season!

Have you checked out the "Battlestar Pallas" campaign? It's basically my collection of all the new and shiny stuff.

I believe this is it...

It's stated on the first or second page of the rules.

I'm acronym ignorant. What the heck is HoTAC?

This, specifically. A cooperative campaign for X-Wing. Was really popular here on the board for a while, and I'm sure lots of people are still playing it. Everybody plays a single Rebel ship (that gains experience and "levels up"), and then the Imperial side is controlled by a fairly competent "AI" that is based on relative positioning and distance with die rolls to keep it from being too predictable.

Works best if you stay within the confines of their tested system with a few house rules (not letting Imperial ships fly off the board is a big one, for example. Or keeping players close together in level because large level gaps between players tends to break the difficulty curve for the enemy Elites). Implementing later-wave ships like the E-Wing and T-70 tends to result in considerably overpowered players because those ships are just substantially better.

Yep, that only works if you incorporate the later Imperial ships as well. HotAC has a random mission selection system, which means that all missions scale by player level. If you write campaigns that progress in a linear way, you can circumvent this problem and allow later ships as well (for example, TIE/fo instead of standard TIE, Punisher instead of Bomber, etc.). I did this for my campaign, and it works pretty well. But again, using these ships in vanilla HotAC isn't really possible because Josh didn't build his campaign for it. The system itself isn't restricted by it, ironically, so any new additions can work out different styles.

Excellent work Stefan, we are planning on running this campaign shortly. I have downloaded the file and browsed through it but i can't seem to find stat/character sheet for the standard player ships not included in HotAC (ARC, U-wing etc.) Are these in another file or am i missing something?

Find them over at the Aturi cluster Facebook group. They were made by fans of HotAC and HotAC never had them because they don't use them in standard HotAC

Player cards for the StarViper, U-Wing and ARC-170 are posted in this thread as well:

Hey ScummyRebel, could you please post a link to this HotAC Facebook group? I just joined Facebook today and have found lots of x-wing miniatures content but I'd like to make sure I can find the "real/main" HotAC group.

Thanks.

If you want more background on HotAC, my podcast has spent a few episodes going over it, including an interview with the creator. It's one of the best ways to play X-wing by those that have tried it. I know many people who will only play X-wing if it's HotAC. The co-op nature is really fun as opposed to head to head X-wing.

I'll second listening to the podcast episodes about HotAC, its how my group got into it.

as for tweaks we've made, well there have been quite a few - if you want the full details look up "misfit squadron" on this forum as i detailed our changes in the thread about our campaign - the short version is, 10 players (we scale the AI numbers up as well), all factions in play both as AI and player ships (no faction mixing for the individual players), no ships banned, if we had more than 7 players for a given game-night we play on a 4x4 instead of a 3x3

have fun with HotAC, its basically saved x-wing at our store
