Kari Wraithstalker - What does her ability represent?

By Uthoroc, in Runewars Miniatures Game

This is not a rules question or intended to be a discussion of the strength of her special melee ability. I am curious about that it represents in the fiction. What does she do that causes enemies to fall all around here in the distance, while she is fighting someone else in melee? I could see it as a storm of arrow if it was a ranged ability, but is clearly keyed to close combat. Do you we have any clue in the fiction for the game?

It can't be from her special experience and hate against undead, because the ability works against any enemy. Or is is simply a pure game effect without any thought giving to what it represents, which would be slightly disappointing? So far I haven't come up with a satisfying idea.

I think she is so freakin' nimble and agile that she can shoot her bow at other enemies while being in melee combat. Like alternating between the two, Legolas style.

Alternatively, she could have some freaky wraith powers. She has this cool ability to "Wraith Step", which gives some credibility to the theory of a duplicate wraith Kari shooting arrows. All Shadow of Mordor style.

Isn't she just basicly Legolas but female? They do have the same weapon loadout. I mean Legolas did some sweet moves during battle switching between bow and swords and all that.

Throwing knives, it was in a preview article or something.

Ah, Darthain is right. This bit is in the " Protectors of the Realm " preview:

Kari can even fling her knives to deadly effect while in melee combat [..]

That begs the question of course why she doesn't need LOS, but that's a different topic entirely ...

They are magic knives. That's good enough for me lol

Try giving Descent: Journeys in the Dark a play.

At more advanced levels, the heroes can do some pretty epic actions like getting free moves and attacks after attacking, or being able to attack multiple targets. It's not uncommon for a hero to be able to drop 3 or 4 monsters in a single turn. What happens in Descent isn't quite as high powered as what happens in Runewars, but thematically, it's pretty well aligned.

She can put that arc on her throws, up over and death.

I always imagined that she is nimble enough to use her opponents' shoulders or shields as a stepping stone to leap into the air and hurl her throwing knives at other opponents in the distance.

Now she has a machine gun, ho ho ho.

Come down to the Mistlands, we'll get together, have a few laughs...

Given that its throwing knives im surprised its a full ranged "attack" and not 1-3 or something. Throwing knives are actually not a very good weapon since you have to throw it in a specific way depending on the range and the max range isnt too great (compared to oh i dont know... a bow?)

Maaaaaagic.

Maybe there's some secret Latari technique to throwing knives that she learned.

"Hey Kari! You throw like an ELF!"

We have walking hunks of stone and skeletons. Your issue is throwing knives?
