Full Bleed Hotaru

By JRosen9, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

So I got bored and decided to make a full bleed Hotaru

Yes ******* please

I didn't love my promo GoT cards when I dabbled in that game, but this I can totally get behind.

Preeeeeetty.

Love the idea. I still am happy looking at my full bleed Paneki.

I would personally like it more if the military/political would be located at the same place as the original card. This makes attachments just better to parse.

I like the glory marker position and the name on the side that looks pretty nice.

Excellent work.

I'm working on various alternate versions of the Ring tokens. Current batch is using the original Imperial Edition art for them, and just a colored border to differentiate the Military and Political sides. I'm thinking of making versions that include text explaining the benefit of that Ring.

I modeled the full bleed on the AGOT ones. There they moved the conflict icons from the top to the bottom. However, AGOT uses static icons without values so it may not have been a good comparison. I'm on my way out for memorial day weekend but I'll see if I can keep the conflict numbers in the same location. The only issue is that will require putting the mon below the conflict numbers which might look odd

Perhaps put the Mon at the very bottom and move the glory to the right side of the text box? Or the other way around?

Oh Lord, someone at FFG, please see this and make this happen. Special edition alt art champ prize support forever. Alt art rings.

I will preorder the set right now. RIGHT NOW.

I hope that they in FFG recognize how much art is important in l5r to players, they can make a following just based on cool art if they keep it. man i would die for this card in a tournament. or a poster.

I tend to sleeve my decks. So, I'm gonna print this baby out and slip it over on top of her actual card. As long as that's cool with @JRosen9.

Going to do the same thing with the other Champs? Pretty please?

Apparently my last post got eaten. I have no problem with people doing whatever they want with it. I'll probably do the rest of the iconics provided I can find art.

No doubt the art will be in each fiction. I'd also not be surprised to see the Gencon clan promos be the champions themselves.

Could be Strongholds, but yeah.

Looks great, and I'm not usually a fan of promos cards. However, I'm not sure I like the color of the clan symbol. I think I'd prefer you use the standard one personally. Just my opinion though. :)

I have actually made deck design choices entirely based off of this principle.

They probably won't be able to do alt art using the original rings, as above. FFG only bought the art rights that AEG owned, and AEG didn't own the rights to any of the art from either the Clan Wars or Jade arcs.

Not saying your wrong, but if AEG didn't own the rights, why were they able to print them as promos in Ivory?

In Samurai.

I believe they paid to license that art specifically for those reprints, but I might be wrong.

I was specifically told several times when I was an AEG employee that they don't own the art to anything before Gold Edition.

True. I'm technically on iffy ground using the art of Matt Wilson and others for my alt rings tokens.

Design question - why did you choose the layout here, rather than keeping the card features where they are on the standard card? I think that would look just as good, and then she wouldn't look kinda like an attachment -- title on the side and whatnot.

As mentioned previously, I modeled the card on the full bleeds that AGOT 2.0 does. I posted an example here

Are you suggesting the publish an Art of L5R book?

I recall a friend comparing these two cards, and she pointed out that the promotional version's art does a better job of capturing what the card does, as it shows Daenerys in an upright, standing position, and that "she's no good unless she's standing." To defend the original art I countered with, "Tell that to Khal Drogo."
