File Leader question

By Embir82, in Runewars Rules Questions

Ok, so the question is:

Does unit having File Leader in it's ranks can attack second time (in it's normal initiative) after using File Leader card rule?

I interpret the card to mean you have to have your command dial already revealed before you can use its ability. For example if a unit charged you before you had revealed your dial, you could not trigger file leader. However if you have revealed your dial I don't think there is a limit to how many times file leader can trigger. So theoretically file leader could let you perform multiple attacks per round.

That's how I read it.

Considering that I always seem to either charge and fall short or reveal an attack ready to respond to a charge that never comes, I'd consider it a win-win.

Raven-Standard is an auto-include of course.

My Reanimates can "attack" on 3 ... if they've been charged they get an attack. If they haven't been charged, they get one when they do.

Well, I am not a native speaker, but second paragraph of this card in my opinion suggests that while you are using this card you have to reveal your dial to prove that you have chosen attack action.
Anyways, I think wording on this card is very poor and not as clear as it could be.

The way it is worded: "This (melee attack) can only be performed while your command dial is revealed with a (melee attack) selected" specifies that 2 criteria that have to be met in order to use file leader. Criteria 1: the dial is revealed. This means that the command dial has already been flipped hence the past tense. Criteria 2 a melee attack is selected. The term while means that the 2 criteria have to be met during the charge.

If the word "revealed" had been "showing" instead I might be able to see how it could be used before revealing your dial.

Thats how I break it down anyway.

definition of the term while

I see it as a way for a unit to put their melee attack on "standby"until they get charge.

So if you know you're going to get charged before you could charge (or out of charge range), you can ready your attack so that when you do get charged, you can attack before they do.

So if your dial is not revealed, it doesn't work.

Ex: Reanimates with File Leader are facing down Oathsworn a 3 Move away. The cavalry can charge the skeletons, but not vice versa. So the Reanimates choose to melee at I3, and when the Oathsworn charge at I6, the Reanimates get to attack the Oathsworn after they move and before they attack.

Edit: it also doesn't limit to once a turn, so if you get charged multiple times, you can attack before each charge resolves.

Also, useful for deathstar units, the unit can attack their engaged target and also attack an incoming flanker.

*idiot* while.

Tried a 4x3 reanimate with Ardus in it(and it was fun). I would have done well to take file leader though, as in one turn I was charged by 4 sepperate units and I'm pretty sure none of them would have lived to make an attack. Next time...
