Team Covenant Crane Clan Preview with Nate French

By Toqtamish, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I found the statement "The Crane are a very straightforward clan" interesting.

Poor Nate. He always looks so uncomfortable whenever a camera is on him.

Notice how he refered to "Duelist Training" as "Kakita Training"... Maybe KT was the working title, and they decided to use something more generic, leaving the KT "free" for future use?

The final name does make it sound like Crane will be *the* dueling clan. Kakita Training would have been preferred IMO.

Is it just me or does Nate look alot like Hawkeye?

Sorry, that wasn't really L5R related...but seriously, he looks like Jeremy Renner to me.

It is L5R related. Hawkeye has Ranged 5.

I would like if the Kakita Style would also provide some political skill and maybe allow then the dual to switched towards using the political skill.

You can splash Duelist Training, but a hypotetical Kakita Training might be non-splashable.

I think that the reason for Duelist Training over Kakita Training is pretty straightforwad and pragmatic:

If I'm a first time player looking at someone's character, and I see something called "Kakita Training", I'm like ????????? ????????.

If I see "DUELIST TRAINING", i'm like OH NOES. It's easier to understand and communicates the concept much better than Kakita Training would.

That's a good point. And there are some things like that, like Crab could thematically splash Noble Sacrifice (though it would probably suck for them) but they put the more generic names on the cards, and put them in the faction they would make the most sense for (in Thrones 2E, the Handmaiden is House Targaryen even though every noble house has handmaidens; you can splash her so same diff).
