Conversion Kit dilemma

By Nighthawk101, in Mansions of Madness

Hello,

I only have MOM2 and have looked through the enclosed conversion kit and would very much like to use some of those investigators when playing. However the App only allows you to enable the 1st Edition to activate them ? If I do this and start a game is it likely that after an hour or two it will ask me to draw a map tile I don't have ?

Thank you.

Generally alternate maps using 1st edition tiles have a 1st edition tile showing as starting tile. In any case, you can very well not enable 1st edition and play with those investigators by making a simple trick:

a) during setup, enter X 2nd edition investigators in the app
b) choose X 1st edition investigators instead
c) create a table saying that 2nd edition Investigator 1 corresponds to 1st edition investigator 1 (and so on)

Anytime the app instructs you to resolve an effect on 2nd edition Investigator 1, resolve said effect on 1st edition Investigator 1, and so on

Hey Julia , thanks for the quick reply. So the App doesn't really distinguish between investigators ? It won't issue context specific to a particular investigator ? I'm new to this you see ?

the app simply says "Marie Lambeau sees the shadow of a ghost reflecting in a mirror. Test Will to...", but doesn't actually track specific investigators, so, if Marie = Diana, anytime you read Marie you resolve Diana, and it's done :)

That's great as I really like some of their special abilities. Thank you for telling me about this solution , my pool of investigators is now much bigger ?. On my next game I must remember to bring some dog biscuits ?

:)

In any case, you can easily proxy tiles from 1st edition as well, by either drawing them, or by using an unused tile from 2nd edition and cleverly dispose on it wall and door tokens. The fact that the app always shows the art of the rooms, and the actual distribution of line dividing areas also helps. As for monsters: just use the cardboard chits. I sleeved the chits (miniamerican sleeves) and folded the leftover of the sleeve on the back with some transparent tape. In this way the board is a lot less crowded, and it's much more functional

Yes I wondered about doing that with map tiles. As for the monsters , I'm only using the chits anyway for now. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the miniatures yet , they will need glueing but the bases are pretty grim. I may in time find somewhere that can mount them on smaller clear discs for me and maybe even get them painted as well , depending on cost. I have seen examples of them professionally painted and they look fantastic.

I think the only expansion that you'd have any trouble with would be Beyond the Threshold. That one has some extra cards that come with it for all of the decks. If you activate that expansion it would start generating some things you won't have.

Yep, but this also makes sense: if you were able to proxy a boxed expansion with ease, then probably they will sell a lower number of copies. I'm pretty much sure that any boxed expansion we'll ever see for this game will come with specific cards and mechanics that are tied to the adventures for that box

Well that bodes well for me because Beyond The Threshold was going to be the first of the expansions I was going to get. So far I'm loving this game. I also invested in some bespoke wooden insert organisers for everything. Very pleased with my purchase.
