Just felt like sharing

By Nerd King, in Dark Heresy

I had the pleasure of helping my son roll up his first Dark Heresy/Warhammer 40K character this evening - a Void Born Tech-priest in fact.

I'm a very proud Dad. :)

It also means that I may have to try to get my players to reshedule our games so that he can join in...

Congradulations i hope he is a worthy addition to your team if he joins...just be sure that he doesn't fall to more heretical inclinations

How old is your son?

Awesome! I can't wait till my son is old enough for that, He's only two, so a little while yet.

Mmm. Have to wait at least until summer... :)

He's eight and a half (about the same age as I was when I played my first RPG ("Tunnels & Trolls" in my case)) and just starting to get into the phenomena of Games Workshop products (as are a couple of other boys in his class at school). This isn't his first RPG experience though as he's aready played the old TSR SAGA Marvel Superheroes and the West End Games DC RPG before.

I found the Technomancer Press book "Roleplaying with Kids" to be a really good resource when thinking about introducing games to younger players - and younger players to established groups.

Also I would point out that the content of scenarios and the descriptive language used in games with him is firmly in the "PG" category - but as the GM I can control that to ensure that he's not exposed to issues or situations that I don't think are suitable.

*smiles* Well... I thing you are going to have fun... just imagine one of his teachers overhearing a conversation during a school break where he tells one of his 40k-infected classmates "...and then I went after him with my chainsword and killed him for being a heretek"... which the teacher will puzzle into "chainsaw" and "heretic". partido_risa.gif Especially if he tells them "no, that is just one of the games my dad plays with me" gui%C3%B1o.gif

Never-the-less, best wishes for your sons new career in the adeptus of mars. This world is in need of more emotionless technical solutions!

I can imagin that your son's teachers will be called "Hereatic" "Unclean" and the like.

I dont know if you have this but here is a link for you http://www.darkreign40k.com/

The most entertaining part of that imnage (to me at least) is that he goes to a Church of England school ;) But considering the discussions I've overheard in the playground before that'd be quite tame by comparison.

I think the adage that "boys will be boys" covers most playground banter.

That's great to hear man!

I've got two boys that I have big hopes for. Unfortunately their mom is an avid tennisplayer so there will be a fight for their souls for sure. Fortunately I am starting to drag her into the nerdpit as well.....

I've got 3 boys. One is 8, one is 4 and the other is 5 months old. I like to tell my friends that I'm growing a gaming group one kid at a time.

With mine I think my two-and-a-half year old daughter shows a deeper streak of gamer than my son. Much to her mother's dismay :)

But as I pointed out she used to collect and paint Orks & Squigs so there's geek in both sides of the genepool.
