Jumpmasters, Flotillas , Something. What's broken OP in Imperial Assault?

By Marinealver, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

In the X-wing forums it is all about nerfing Jumpmasters, For Armada podcasts it's b****ing about flotillas.

So my question is what is the Imperial Assault Equivalent or OP models, Wookies?

(I've heard the Imperial Assault Skirmish has went through the most extreme erratas out of all FFG's Star Wars game).

I'm fairly certain X-wing hold the title for extreme erratas...

IA tends to re balance after each major release so at worlds you could argue that hunters are OP but once the Jedi wave drops I expect that won't be a problem anymore. The only time IA was really horrible was in the first year of it's release with the infamous 4x4 being the only really competitive build, these days its great.

It's the opposite, you need a 10-page document for X-Wing errata. (Only a slight exaggeration.)

IA has had Royal Guards, Imperial Officer, and Rebel Saboteurs changed (all from the core box) and a recent scoring change. All others are minor errata fixing the wordings of cards.

I don't think we have had any figures that have outright broken the game. On the other hand, the design space of abilities in X-Wing is very limited because it's a maneuvering and fighting game, and abilities need to tie in to that. Also, the X-Wing organized play does not use other objectives than defeats, unlike Imperial Assault which has 6 missions with points from objectives too. There are thus other ways to win than an army best suited for surviving and attacking.

your right, the last Xwing FAQ was 18pages

my point counter only goes up to 20 - that's broken it should go all the way up to 40 (maybe I can change that trend with a store championship :D

IA's brokeness is opposite, there are some figures that are hard to take because they are fairly ineffective (Gharkaan, Biv, Fenn, etc)

On the flip side, and why IA might have got the rep for extreme FAQ's, is that IA was the first of the Star Wars mini games to outright change stats on figures. That's not happened on X-Wing or Armada yet. X-Wing has recently taken the step to properly re-write abilities, previously it was normally just clarifications of wording to get rid of ambiguity. Plus it's been going for much longer! In the first 2 years of its life, IA has been pretty bold on card amendments.

For clarity, that's not a criticism, just putting the differences into perspective.

Well, if you consider changing how the TIE Phantom's cloaking device works to not be an errata / rewrite of abilities. :D

Some of that was outright typos, frankly, there should have been more outright point cost amendments. Flotillas and Jumpmasters aren't really broken, just misunderstood.

Frankly the sabs and royal guards don't need a change, they could have weathered the storm, reg officers still probably needed the errata, I think things have finally caught up to the sabs and royal guard

Scum hunters are pretty busted. Chopper is insanely powerful. Almost anything from before Jabba's is practically useless.

I don't find anything really broken here. Others have griped about the Rebel care package, there is also discussion about Take Initiative's large swing.

IA's errata's have been very minimal. Most changes were basically clarifications to rewrite as intended. The mess is in the LCG where cards get nerfed, rulings reversed, terminology gets confusing...

It was an errata, it was just a pen & ink change on the rules and not the card themselves. However now we do have pen & ink changes on cards not for clarification and gameplay interaction but for competitive balance.

True X-wing hasn't gone into changing stats without releasing a whole new card that doesn't invalidate the previous one (i.e. Poe) but there are loud screams for a certain ship/pilots to have its points raised.

I would say, that when figure is auto-include, it is broken. Therefore, I would dare to say that nowadays we have one broken figure in IA. It is, IMO, Gideon.

Is there a serious rebel list without JKLuke or a serious Imp list without Terro? They're insane value.

The Great and Mighty Jabba the Hutt is in fact a Vile Gangster filling up everyone's list and he's okay with that.

Good, at least he is useful somewhere.

The X-wing one is lame as bantha fodder.

@Marinealver The Great and Mighty Jabba the Hutt would not waste his time in a simple game of x-wing, he only does epic.
