Pinnacle of Perfection
Ohhh, so many shiny spoils
Good call!
That's...a lot of honoring characters and messing with opponents based on that fact. Also, our first look at a clan champion and how powerful 4 and 5 cost characters are.
Early this time!
I know it's a small obvious thing, but I'm happy there is no influence on the clan champion.
Ok, ok. I will splash Crane (so far). Above Question and Steward of Law seem interesting enough. Even Height of Fashion can be considered, despite the fair bamboo cost.
That Guest of Honor is going to be a pain. So is the Art of Peace. In general, Crane OP.
It looks very good. Maybe some people will still have some doubts about duels but at least the card draw part should feel better.
Oh, Sincerity being a thing... will we see the different virtudes as such?
Edited by WintersongVoice of Honor would be pretty weird in multiplayer. Say Jim has an honorable guy out, Mary has five, and Bobby has none. Mary plays an event, which Jim is quick to cancel with VoH, which he can do because he has more honored guys than Bobby, even though the controller of the event being canceled has far more honorable characters than either of them.
Edited by Ide YoshiyaAll of the cards that I would splash in a Scorpion deck are not splashable. I'm feeling really bad for the new deckbuilding limitations.
Stupid crane. Weak, arrogant fools who hide behind their honor like it's a shield...
Hmmm...i shall have to play as the crane...alot...you know, for research purposes. Know your enemy and stuff, right?
This. Is. So. Amazing. gonna go to printers tomorrow and print all this pretty stuff
Edited by DovlaSome of the province abilities are making me wonder if it's worth "feinting" with one weak character to scout a province before committing a lot of forces.

You do not know the Scorpion cards yet, so why would you feel bad? ![]()
I find the honor theme for characters is pretty powerful. Crane is going to enjoy a very favorable mechanic, as they seem to have higher than average glory, and honoring their characters is able to give them a good boost in conflicts.
Honoring your characters looks like stronger than dishonoring your opponents, as you can rely on your own stats rather than depending on your rivals, in what comes to boosting conflicts.
Way of the crane being a very remarkable example. An event that can boost both military and political at no cost is awesome. And it gains honor to your house when the characters leave.
Also, the political power of the clan is also astonishing. I expected some difference, but with what we have seen, it seems much higher than what I supposed. A crane political offensive will be quite hard to stop.
Right now, I have a feeling to be facing a powerhouse. But probably will I get the same feeling when I see the other clans cards.
Hmm... From the article last week I wouldn't have guessed Doji Hotaru would have such an high Political value. She seemed like an emotional teenager in the second half. Maybe I'm not understanding politics right?

Certainly, I expected her stats the other way around...
Saw a number of shutdown effects this time. But we can't make any judgement about how good they are until we've seen more of the card pool to see what ways there are to deal with them. For example, how much send home or discard will there be printed on personality cards that can get rid of the Guest of Honor? Though now that I think of it, I can Pacifism her from joining military conflicts or Cloud the Mind to remove her text (because Cloud is an attachment!) Maybe the shutdown isn't so bad, since it isn't so absolute. There are still options to deal with it.
Dueling doesn't really seem that good at the moment. Maybe its utility will become more apparent in actually play? At the moment I don't think I would dread to see a duel on the board.
Hm... we haven't seen the Phoenix yet so we can't say for sure, but I get the feeling the Crane might not be a good splash clan for the Phoenix; all the honor manipulation doesn't seem likely to mesh with our play style.

Keep your filthy Scorpion paws off of these Crane cards!
Well. I am kinda blown away right now. This game is shaping up to be 10x better than the CCG.
It should be stated that they've done an amazing job of weaving the concept of honor into the fabric of the game.
It seems clan specific provinces will be stronger than I thought. I felt like Shameful Display was a very powerful effect, but The Art of Peace is so vastly superior I don't know what to think about it.
So far named characters feel great to me. They come with what seems good abilities and stats that make me want to keep them around. Regarding Doji Hotaru herself she seems to be powerful enough to appropriately represent what a clan champion should feel like, but she is very expensive. It's interesting that they mention that Hotaru's skill when honored will be around the highest values in the game, especially because it gives us a better perspective.

I'm quite impressed at the apparent step up in power from cost 3 to for. Honored gest alone matches the strength of most provinces we've seen and seems really hard to fight against.
I didn't think we would see bushido virtues as keywords, but I really like it and want to see more, although I would expect courtesy rather than sincerity to show up in the Crane spotlight.

You run the risk of your opponent defending and claiming the Ring which could lead to them getting the Imperial Favor.
Crane look like they are good friends with the Imperial Favor....
Looks like they got rid of the "clan X only" by not using bamboo shots in "loyal" cards.

Well when you have the honor of having Kakita Yoshi and Doji Shizue as your hype team you get a lot of political power.

Smart thing to do cuts down on bold text. Much better than will only join.

At the same time high glory characters are extremely vulnerable to cards that dishonor them. Hotaru might be a 6/9 when honored, but she ends up being a 0/3 when dishonored.

Politics involves being able to get what you want by talking to the right person. Some emotional teenagers can be very effective at that.
