First page in this thread.

Doh, it's been so long since I looked at the first page that I forgot about it.

A bit more than two weeks remaining...

I need to finalize my rosters. Plan to this weekend.

Make sure to bring enough stuff to make a roster if you're thinking of joining on the day!

As I'm getting more serious about roster building, I'm coming up with questions and comments:

  • Assuming Guns for Hire is released, is it playable? Have y'all made the final call on that? If not, what's your cut-off date?
  • I'm guessing currently unreleased stuff won't be available, but if so, how should upgrades for, e.g., a Vaksai be priced in the roster?
  • Assuming negative point-cost cards are 0 (in rosters only, I assume) is an implication that they are not fixes for their respective ships. It will have the effect of discouraging, e.g., A-wings. Wouldn't it be better to simply say that any negative-point cost card has to be assigned to a given ship in the same way that an EPT is assigned to a given pilot?
  • This seems like the way to go for the Vaksai (or, even if it's not going to be available, the TIE Advanced is in the same position); namely, allow the discount in roster cost, but lock the upgrade to the ship. Paying 26 points for a PS 2 TIE Advanced with AdvTC seems ... like a lot.
  • Note that getting an Aggressor (IG-2000) means taking a Firespray or a JM5K ... and JM5Ks are banned. (See pages 4 and 6.)
  • On that subject, assuming the leaked FAQ is real (and released before GenCon), will it be in play? Again, are you locked in, and if not, when will you make the final call?

Page 11 of the rules has a list of what you do and don't need to bring, here's a copypaste;

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:
Completed Squadron Roster Form
Ship miniatures, pilot cards, and upgrade cards for your squadron roster. Card
proxying is allowed if you have at least one copy of the card to display with your
proxy, or if the HQ table approves your proxy.
Completed Draft Form
Ship miniatures for any draft picks that require a different ship class than the pilot
they replace, i.e. ARC-170 pilots, IG-2000 pilots, or Attack Shuttle pilots.
Attack and defense dice
Maneuver templates
Standard tokens (focus, evade, TL, etc.)
Specific tokens needed for your upgrades (i.e. mine or bomb tokens)
Standard Damage deck (either version acceptable)
6 asteroid tokens
6 debris tokens (If you do not have enough debris tokens, the HQ desk will have some
available for use)
6 sets of target lock tokens - note that you may need these, regardless of whether
your ships have the target lock action, if you play mission 1B. Don’t leave them at
home!
6 evade tokens (regardless of whether your ships have the action)

YOU WILL NOT NEED TO BRING:
Any mission-specific terrain or token elements
Unique pilot or upgrade cards - the HQ table will provide unique cards as needed
Cardboard inserts for unique pilots - the HQ table will provide unique inserts as
needed

Will you have blank squadron roster forms on hand? I have my squadrons made up and ready but don't have easy access to a working printer. I tried but windows in stupid and can't find drivers. After two hours I got frustrated and hit the printer with a bat. It is currently inoperable.

Yep, we'll have blanks handy for people to fill out

Hope we don't run out of room. We have...5 spaces left?

Man, less than 2 weeks before I leave. Can't wait!

I'm with you here! It's my first year back to GenCon after a 6 year absence.

Getting the car serviced for the 9 hour trip. It's sneaking up fast.

oh. Rebel Nym, what's his build path? Y-wing?

I think the K-wing would probably be best. It has roughly the same upgrade slots.

Y-wing and HWK; trying to be fluffy as possible. Seems like those are ships pirates might use

I've always wanted to go since I first heard about GenCon as a little kid playing DnD. The pages of Dragon magazine would talk about the wonders of GenCon. I have been wanting to go since the early 80's and this will be my first time!

OMG. I never play with all this ****. I have just spent 4+ hours trying to gather all the bits and pieces!!!

It took less time to get my car serviced for the drive, like Lag did.

My brother and I have always said XWM was an exercise in "chit management."

Since Rebel Captive is a unique, does it have to be drafted??

No; it's on the exempt list. Most unique cards that aren't a named character are exempt from needing to be drafted. They're still unique to your roster though (only one per roster or squad)

It's been 3 years for me, but I used to go every year when it was still in Milwaukee. Indy became a lot less convenient. OTOH, I never went when it was actually Lake Gen(eva)Con.

Cool. I have 4 copies. Can't find a single one of them. I have to borrow it from my nephew :(

Meh, could be worse. At least the minis aren't lead and pewter for this game. Or you're carrying a big bin of terrain across the street and have it spill in the middle of the road... (I'm so sorry for those poor buggers waiting for me to clear my mess and get off the road!)

By the by $900 later, the car is ready for the drive. :(

I guess I got off light. $550. <_<

It's never light. Still, I'd rather get it serviced and ready for a 900km trip... 560 miles for you 'mericans.

900 km works for me, since I actually believe in science. After $3K for a plumber, $550 was a bargain.

And if you want to get sloppy with the nationality, I believe it's "Murica." Eew.

Anywho, it will be a pleasure to meet you in a couple o' weeks. Or a fortnight, if you prefer. :P

Hi!

Anything released in Guns for hire will not be legal for the event. At this point there's really not enough time to vet anything properly before go-time.

The rule regarding negative point upgrades for the roster is mainly to prevent anyone from squeezing more points into the roster by dropping their total points through the addition of negative point cards. I wouldn't want to lock titles to ships because there are a lot of titles that you might want to swap in/out depending on the mission. I don't want to screw around with this rule too much so close to the event, but I also don't like the way it penalizes TIE advanceds. I'll be open to changing this rule significantly after the event, and I'm looking for an elegant solution. I might do something along the lines of upgrade locking, like you suggest.

I'll update that draft rule for the IG2000; I forgot that the JM5K was on that list. I'll swap it for something that is still legal.

The FAQ's legality will depend a lot on if/when it drops, and what is really in it. A lot of the rumored changes are irrelevant to us due to the current ban list. I will say that anything that drops while we are less than a week away will not be in effect during the event.

I am a little confused, I thought at one point (maybe on a podcast) it was discussed that Wave XI is not allowed? Didn't Wave XI come out on the 13th July and the Rules say the ban is after 15th July? I assume then that Wave XI is then approved?

I still haven't read all the missions to game plan a list and starting to freak out.
