GenCon X-wing Narrative Event! Unique Event!

Another question:

I completely understand how something like R3-A2 or even Experimental Interface is a Unique, and has to be drafted.

But does that hold true for Lone Wolf? Squad Leader?

Seems like a lot of cards are only "unique" because they should only appear once in each squadron, not because (unlike R3-A2) they're literally unique.

Sorry for all the questions! I just really want to see y'all make a huge splash with this, so hopefully this helps to iron out the wrinkles.

Yeah; a lot of the unique cards that are not named will be treated as essentially squadron-unique. That goes for lone wolf, probably rebel captive, etc. That language needs to be added to the rules, though

Jeff Wilder is asking all the questions I have merely been contemplating.

Im trying not to get too attached to any ideas on list building till I know more.

Attachment leads to fear; fear leads to suffering, suffering leads to anger, anger leads to the Dark Side.

Lucky for me, I'm gonna play Imperials. ;)

That's too bad! We're running other games on the other days. Friday is largely mario-kart day, and Biff is running his trench run and ISD scenarios on thursday and friday afternoon. There'll also be huge ship battles on saturday, and a sprinkling of casual matches

I'll bring some lists along see if I can't get in to the trench run game Friday...

You guys are awesome! Love following the genesis and organic growth of the project through the podcasts! Though I will not be a gencon, I'll definitely try it out post with friends.

There are two trench run events, one Thursday and another on Friday. You need not bring anything to these Trench Run events - all ships, etc will be provided. A large ISD event (not currently listed) will be run on Thursday night with some of the podcast crew. As with the Trench Runs, all material will be provided - just bring your experience. ;)

Awesome I'll defiantly try and make the Thursday event.

Makes me sad that i live across the pond so cant get to things like Gencon without selling a small child.

I've downloaded the rules packs and will have a look later. might see if i can get my local tabletop group to have a go at it soon.

I'm looking forward to the Thursday event. At least stop by at some point.

Yeah, it's been out of budget for me, too, for years. Only with getting free hotels for GMing games is this even remotely possible. I've wanted to go to GenCon since I was a kid playing DnD back in the 80's. I'm excited to go ....and it's the 50th! Still going to hurt by not working (no vacation days) and a flight up there (drive back).

Oooh, I never got a free room for GMing games at GenCon. You guys got a deal! VIPs! We did get a discount though, so not really complaining.

There is some sort of return on investments based on how many hours you do. X many is 1 free entry. XX many is a free hotel room. I think when you plan to run a 40 person 14 hour event, it starts to add up. That's not counting the Mario Kart stuff, either.

There is indeed a return on your room per hours spent running events. At times I miss it. It's a different kind of fun running the game from behind the table. You're going to enjoy it. Small events is one thing, but the major events like Origins and GenCon just bring it to a new level - the players and the camaraderie with the other GMs is great.

I will say that I don't think I'll get to do a single event, other than Biff's ISD mission. I really wish I could play in this Narrative event. :)

Will any of this be recorded on video for your youtube channel?

Also, these guys have been working really hard to put this group of events together. Show your love and support: buy them a slice of pie or invite them out for some grub.

Well....we hope so. We have our camera that we use, but it has a limited battery life. We said we didn't need to be near a power plug as we really don't have to. If we were somehow able to get power, then YES! We would be able to video it. The only other option is we buy a whole bunch of batteries. :) We do have a little audio recorder that has an insane battery life. I do want to do a lot of recording of the event. I want to get people's opinions and do shout outs for the podcast.

Pie is good! Grub is good! Every year SunKing makes a special GenCon beer. I hear this year is one of my favorite types: Golden Belgian Ale. I haven't tried it, but I expect it to be good! It might depend on how much flavor they put in, but I hope not too much fruit or spice.

How will the world wide event work out? Will it be done in person or over vassal?

I think either will work. The matches are going to have to be reported to us in either case, so it doesn't matter too much how they are played. But we haven't worked out exactly how the worldwide event will actually run yet.

Right. What I am thinking of is that each group of people wanting to get involved will organize what they want on their own. It can be a local TO will set something up for their local area. It can be someone organizing a Vassal event as big as they want to organize it. Maybe it's 2 friends in their kitchen playing out both missions per turn? Just send in the results to us and we will go ahead and organize it all to tell a story.

I would like to say that we could probably try to organize some Vassal events....but we are probably going to be really burnt out after doing GenCon. I'd be extremely happy if others took it upon themselves to organize it. I'm sure we could help.

We are also trying to get on a few podcasts to talk about it. We would love other podcasts to try it or maybe just let their listeners know about it, too.

Even after we are done collecting info for it, the packets will be out there for anyone to run as an event whenever they want.

Yeah; we'll probably start thinking in earnest about the post-gencon campaign a few weeks after gencon, and launch it when we're ready. There will probably be some work to do in terms of refining the missions and the other elements of the campaign to do before that, based on what we learn at Gencon. Ideally I think we want to make this something that people can run on their own, and that we can run at other events.

So, then, TIE Swarm is winning this tournament.

TIEs are pretty good, sure. But in my experience over many playtests, they're not overpowering. Why do you think they will be?
