Pure Rebel Beef

By thestggrwng, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Having a lot of fun with this squad just being pure tanky beef.

Lothal Rebel-35

2x Rookie X-wings with R2 Astromech and Integrated Astromech- 44

Gold Squadron BTL-A4 and Dorsal Turret- 21

Run the Y with the X-wings behind. The Lothal is right next to them. The trick is not banking the lothal into the melee. He gets in the way of your stuff more than your opponent. He needs to K and then bank in coming from behind. Always focus, only take a target lock if you are not going to be shooting or being shot at. The wide arc of the Lothal is great for catching arc dodgers or just as a blocker to set up your X-wings and Y for hitting them. It’s got potential.

Also considering changing out one of the X-wings for a B, but the 4 K is very good when I need to get out of the cluster the first engagement creates.

I was kicking around a similar list... the only difference was I dumped the R2 units from the X-Wings and added R3A2 on the Y-Wing. Haven't flown it, though... It's still in line.

How much damage has the y-wing done with dorsal turret and the title? I'm finding it hard to picture it being a big contributor.

At range 1 it is throwing 2 three die attacks and at 2 is throwing 2 2 die attacks. It has been pumping it out. Especially since people ignore it because it doesn't have a stress bot. If I have 21 points this is what I am taking in any list. At range 2 I have even found it effective because the other three ships generally strip any tokens by the time it is firing and at range 1 even more so.

The R2 Astros with integrated make the X-wings so much tougher. Can't get rid of that.

They do... but the addition of the Y-Wing with stressbot acts also like a giant kick me sign that allows the X-Wings to go unmolested during the initial pass... which is normally when the X-Wings get singled out and blown up otherwise. Plus, it's a great tool to have on hand to make the other player sweat about when they have a very action dependent ship... (ie - action bombers...)

With the Y-wings high damage output, I think his better option is to get in at range 1 and really start hammering opponents with his double attack. Stress bot on a TLT works because of the range and high probability of damage getting through. At this close he needs the focus. I also like that in my configuration there is a question of who to attack first. (I've found people generally pick the Lothal or an X but usually damage gets spread around evenly as damaged ships break off to come back around later. I don't want to put a target on the Y that people will pursue, because I do want them questioning if it is a good idea. This all comes down to play style too. Stress bot would fly very differently.

All valid points! Not disagreeing.
