IF SWM20 is the SSD...

call it what you will. I was not making an argument I was just pointing out the fact that Mel has it available. as for it being difficult to get someone to play with unofficial stuff. who says it will be any easier with an official one. the ship will be expensive to field and the Rebels will have to take a massive force to bring her Down which will discourage most people from playing against it.

If it's official then people will accept it. While it is harder to get to play epic X-Wing, I've managed to host a number of epic X-Wing events. Despite the common knowledge that epic ships are not exceptionally balanced compared to the small and large ships (they're underpowered), people still dig them and take the epic ships as legit. They will have a harder time taking customs as legit.

Regarding the deterrent question, that would presume that the official SSD would be overpowered. I'm afraid that the reverse will be the more likely scenario. Even now, the larger ships seem to suffer a bit because they imply an activation disadvantage - though that's another conversation. At any rate, there's no reason to believe a priori that an SSD will be a deterrent to gameplay.

It will, however, be a pain in the rear to pack up and take to the game store on my bike. Thankfully, most people drive cars.

I have been looking for a viable transportation option for a fleet on my motorcycle, please let me know if you come up with something.

I keep coming back to Armada saddle bags... but that my take some serious customization.

I ride a Victory, so at least I am staying true to the New Order.

Absolutely!

I have a large Timbuktu sling bag that I found at Goodwill. I have to pack it fairly carefully and methodically to make it all fit. Also, since I baby my minis, I also have a number of padded or magnetized containers. Range rulers and TIE fighters are in a long zippered case in the bottom, and cards are in a pocket. Written description can't really do the compact beauty of my bag justice.

But I really do swear by that sling bag. I can even wear it with a backpack on top of it. Frequently I head out on a Friday early afternoon to work on my laptop at a coffee shop for a few hours before going next door to the game store.

EDIT: I ride a Triumph, which is true to the old (ie. British) Empire.

your braver souls than I am, don't trust myself on a bike let alone my mini's.

Yes, they are "murdercycles", and even if you're a great rider, there are still many dangers from bad drivers.

But the danger is part of the thrill, I guess. They also feel really nice to ride - even old beaters like mine ('78). However, another part of it is that it is a functional mode of transportation. My wife and I have just the one car, and she uses it for her commute. I take either the motorcycle or the bicycle, depending on weather, parking, and *oomph*.

It would be epic to have an SSD, but with that being said I would be happy with the other big guys. Allegiance class would be a cool class to have

But either way, an SSD would be an epic centerpiece to anyone's fleet

If SWM20 is the SSD, several other things are likely true:

  • It will include Admiral Piett as a commander and Emperor Palpatine as an officer.
  • It will not be part of a wave.
  • It will probably come with a campaign. If not, it will certainly come with a set of scenarios and objectives.
  • It will probably be just over 2 feet long, angering many people on the internet.
  • Its strengths will most likely be very high defense (hull, shields, and engineering), a very high squadron value, and one or two special rules or titles. I doubt it will have much more firepower than an ISD II's front arc on any of its arcs.
  • It will not be tournament legal.
  • It might have some ability to make attacks without the standard range ruler. I played with a 22 inch SSD on a base just slightly larger than a normal large base, and there were some very strange moments when rebel ships under the bow were actually outside of medium range!

But will it have an SSD pictured on it?

I'll believe that when I see it. FFG has zero monetary incentive to make a 3x6 mat when we already buy 2 3x3 mats just to play a game. Making SSDs, that's like printing your own $100 bills.
