Our stuff is kind of old, obsolete and cheap. We dont really have the same fancy toys and technology (Alliance keeps stealing out tech from the EU) as the other power factions, and our lists are built on hope and prayers in the form of green dice.
Meanwhile, rebels and Scum are juggernauts that use raw power, size and efficiency combined with advanced technology to overwhelm the underdogs with sheer volume of firepower.
I'm no big city lore-lawyer <crowd gasps> but wasn't that always the point? Rebels relied on reliable and functional technology, and bounty hunters/crime syndicates relied on plenty of stolen tech, sneaky devices to gain the upper hand; both factions doing so because they had to make up for regularly being outnumbered?
As for being old or cheap, I think you need to take another look at the Imperials, and how long the 3 ship list has been predominant for at this stage...

You missed the point, Rebels steal Imperial stuff before they were even Imperial.

Because things like SLAM or any other of a hundred technology wouldn't even exist if not for imperial research grants. During the "long peace" the Republic languished with mostly the same tech they had relied on for centuries, untill the Empire actually started making tech advance again
Maybe Imperials should just get 50 extra squad points, it would be thematic...

Actually the Empire owned more Nebulon B frigates than the Rebels.
I'm assuming cloak was going to be a bigger thing before it was "the thing" for the empire.
Now it's almost nothing.
I bet slam was there too. Until kwings ruined it for us all.
The Empire is built by the lowest bidder.

Everything I'm refering to is Legends (as it is mich more detailed and Disney hasn't expanded on this very much)
The Empire received large numbers of Nebulon B frigates to use as escorts for convoys. But from time to time the Rebels purchased some from Kuat which the Kuati managed to "loose" during delivery.
The Rebels had only a few hundreds to thousands Nebulon B but it quickly became a Symbol of the Rebellion which lead to most Imperial Commanders refrefusing to use them. So even more of them were used solely for escort missions.
The reason we see no imperial Nebs in Armada, EAW and so on is because most people know them as iconic rebel ships.
In X-Wing, TIE fighter, X-Wing Alliance, the WEG RPG, etc we see imperial Nebs on a regular basis.

And yet, Imps get the Quasar Fire which was primarily a rebel ship in Legends and then even when stolen in Rebels got WAY more screen time as a Rebel base ship.
Seems to match the movies.
Rebels were always better with fighters, while the Empire's power is with their capital ships, all of which are too large for X-Wing.
On a side note, I'd love to see some kind of crossover between Armada and X-Wing. Like an Armada game that is played as normal but the fighter vs fighter battles are decided in X-Wing matches
