Thank you.....

I personally thought this old girl was okay until reading this thread made it apparent that they don't get given a +1 fate token out of the aether for the trade off of bowing a guy, but she actually has to give one away. Which means that she needs to be either accounted for appropriately or rendered useless. Which means I think she is going to be ran at most when we have a small card pool, or by people deliberately trying to run All The Bow, which will happen eventually.

In fairness, this makes her a pretty well balanced and fair card, properly designed. That I will almost certainly never be playing =p

The fact that there is now a currency that can be sacrificed to other players makes me think that it will eventually be referenced by other cards, even if not initially. The way the Crane are going, I expect most gifts will end up benefiting them far more than the recipient.

Unless they would prefer to keep as much talk on their forums that they have moderation control.

They don't have any control over any of the podcasts they give stuff out to either.

That'd be nice. That would be quite neat if the two major political clans both toyed around with the idea of gifts of fate in different ways, as a cool little sub theme. The Scorpion give you gifts that wind up leading to downfall(discards?) and dishonor, and maybe get the Yasuki in there. I give you one now and you give me two later. Or just keep it a Crane thing lol. Beware the Crane bearing gifts!

While true, forums are much more accessible and can be quickly accessed. Podcasts you have to actually take the time to listen to. Podcasts also have a limited number of voices. You have the 2-5 people who talk about it and thats it. where as forums have a technical unlimited number of voices.

I'm not saying any of this is true, I'm just saying its possible that FFG would like to keep as much of the discussion as possible on boards they control. I only played AGOT briefly but this seems to be the way FFG handles things.

Since the Crane Clan forum got a preview, it's safe to assume we'll be seeing them sent to an assortment of venues.

Thematically, I love this card! Mechanically, not so much.

A card can still use its abilities when bowed (as long as it doesn't require bowing them), the opponent chooses which character to bow, and you have to give them a fate to do so. This ability seems terrible to me and this seems like a card that would be removed from my decks ASAP. I can see it being useful but those situations seem like they will be very rare.

Maybe this will combo well with another card we don't know about but I am doubtful.

She combos very well with the Crane stronghold. To contest a political conflict that she is participating in your opponent has to commit at least three characters, or two with strength 3+. That's a large investment into a single conflict to just to get in the door. The cost of her ability is pretty high, but you don't even need to use it that often, just the threat of it will warp how your opponent plays in a way that is beneficial to you.

It's not always about what you can do with your cards so much as what your opponent fears you can do. If you manage to get into your opponent's head, they'll sometimes imagine their way to defeat without you having to do anything particularly clever at all!

That being said, I'm intrigued by these less-than-obvious cards. I always find it fun to try to make a deck to get them to work. Such decks don't often win, but they're almost always fun to play!

Like Doji BigBob. +1 pol for each bowed character. Crane are looking kind of like Baratheon.

I think this is the key to her. If you ever need to activate her ability you're in trouble, but the threat of using it will force your opponent to adjust their strategy significantly. Suddenly every attack or potential defense needs a second (sacrificial) body, which cuts down on their options for the turn, and cost you nothing except leaving her sitting at home presenting a threat.

I don't know why she keeps making me think of Granny Chio from Narruto.

The only problem is this doesn't work well against players that don't care too much about what you have. Something I see a surprising amount of in many games.

But against an opponent like that, her ability has the potential to really shine. They may send their best with nothing to back then up.
