Aha! Beat me to it! :P:P

I couldnt get it posted everywhere quick enough!

You know, I'm kinda getting this feeling that Crane is pretty much into Political conflicts and control.... ?

PS: A solid card, a profoundly well written attribute, and your opponent can delight in 'receiving' a free Fate point! ?

Crane Clan? More like White Elephant Clan!

White Elephant is a separate Crane card. That's what you meant, right? ;)

Doji Gift Giver? While I like the flavor of the card, the name really lacks any "umph."

Crane Clan forum should have been your first destination.

The best gifts given are the ones that cost you little and put your recipient into great debt to you... that's a very Crane way of thinking.

I tried :)

I had to wait for activation on my account because I wasn't registered already.

Usually the faction I hate the most, gets all the bowing effects. And that only increases the hatred.

Mm. That now makes me think of a card effect:

Matchmaker (probably Doji, because well)

Action :- Honour two characters controlled by different players.

Wait till you see what Scorpion has in store. Your hatred will turn into sarcastic laughter.

(apologies for my being childish with my posts on this thread)

Oni: Waaaaaaagh!

Doji Gift Giver: Please, accept this Fate as an appreciation token by the Crane Clan.:)

Oni: Er... Arigatō? *bows*

"And that is how Doji Shizuko defeated Akuma no Oni, children." - Doji Shizue, storyteller extraordinaire.

Hmm, I think she's 1 fate too expensive but we'll have to see how rare bowing cards are in the core set. She may see play just because of the limited card pool.

I will feel bad about it, but if that poor old lady walks up on my province, I will have to tetsubo her @$$.

Question:

The Fate that you give to your opponent, does that Fate come from your pool or the general pool???

The way it is worded makes it seem like it comes from your fate pool.

I'd say the cost is spot on as she has a 0 military value instead of a "-"

Bringing a bow effect to either conflict type and having at least an average political skill value is pretty solid. Honestly I think Crane players might come to wish her fate cost was slightly higher to put her out of range of the effects that target characters with a 2 or less base fate cost.

I would assume the fate comes from the fate pool of the player using the ability. I would also assume you can't use the ability if you don't have any fate when you use the ability.

I'd let them waste some removal on her.

From what we've seen so far, 2 cost is probably the average cost per character. We haven't seen anything more expensive than 3 yet, so for 2 fate you would expect a relatively robust and useful character.

She'll work wonderfully against people who dec
lare 1 character per conflict, either attacking or defending, as they will only have one option to bow, but allowing them to choose the character to bow means they could kneel their least important character there if more than 1 character is there.

Then the 0/2 stats make me think they overestimated the value of her ability. Compared to the Doji Whisperer, who is a blank 0/3 for 1 fate, you get 1 less political strength and gain a conditional bow effect for 1 additional upfront fate + an additional fate each time you use her ability ( a fate swing of 2 each time you use the ability).

I assume you must have 1 fate in order to initiate this ability, as giving them the fate seems to be part of the cost. So, if you spent all your fate, she is a blank 0/2 for 2.

It's too early to pass final judgment on any card because we still don't have a full grasp of how often you'll be attacking or defending with one character etc, but the initial impression I have is...strong but overcosted/understatted.

Especially since characters can come from your hand now...1 fate may end up allowing them to play a new character in the conflict, possibly negating the benefit of this card. Or an attachment that could easily provide more strength than the bowed character would have. There seems to be an awful lot of things to do with fate during conflicts, so that is not an insignificant cost of the ability.

The good news is bowing a character isn't nearly as effective in this version of the game because they can still use abilities even while bowed, as long as bowing isn't part of the cost. So there is a good chance that you have a character attacking or defending that you don't care so much about their strength and more about the ability they bring to the battlefield. This character doesn't help at all in controlling those types of characters.

As a side note, it's really cool for FFG to be giving these spoils to podcasts.

We have seen a 4 cost in the Yogo Hiroue partial reveal (the L5R LCG announcement on the 19th of April)!

I think her presence will be powerful, even though in a vacuum she's a "0/2 for 2" - she either restricts what events your opponent plays in the conflict and/or forces a removal effect. She has the potential to 2 for 1 (or even many-for-1 if she's left unchecked and your opponent plays into her) and that's where she shines.
