Three dice base and a free mortal wound takes the sting out of no brutal.
I will totally take it. That dial is going to be all kinds of fun, and I'm tempted by both Wildcall's Instinct and Ambush Predator -- they'll both present all kinds of fun maneuvering strategies. Instinct gives you the versatility to engage exactly what you want, and is probably best paired with the Spear to engage small, but potentially toughish (I can see her ripping through MSU counter-charging cavalry flankers like nobody's business -- 1W2R1B, anybody, plus lethal 3? That's a potential 10 damage plus a mortal wound, and averages almost 6 plus a mortal -- enough to kill a Carrion Lancer flat out, for instance) units early and often on the front lines. That's enough to kill a fresh Carrion Lancer or Rune Golem as often as not, and is capable of one-shotting Ardus or Kari on a flank charge with a ready Spear. Ambush Predator is definitely built for being a backfield apex predator, protecting you as you maneuver close to their covering fire and then paying you back in damage for the time you spent getting into position, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Ambush Predator double her expected Speared-up damage (though I don't know if I'd spend the points on a Spear for her if I were using Ambush Predator) most of the time you use it late-game.
Of course, we *still* don't know the formations and points for Deepwood Archers. Harrumph!
