R4 agro mech,

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Seriously?

Is... there a question?

There will be when I can find the words. Right now I'm just floored that it works like it looks like works.

Plus...I'm always late to the party on this stuff,so it's new to me.

I just need to relax a moment.

Eagerly awaiting the full question ;)

Agromech has been the subject of some debate and FAQ'ing so your question may or may not be settled

Well, the first line in that link pretty much is what I`m all twisted up on.

And, ....I guess this is my question.... so I get a lock..shoot a torp. can I spend a focus on a blank for no effect other than to trigger the agromech...get a another TL. and use that to reroll the attack?

Yes, you can do that. Spending a focus changes "all" the eye results to hits. Zero is still "all" of them.

Ah, that's a classic question: can I spend a focus on zero results? Yes you can :)

In the Rules Reference included with the blue core set you can see this under 'Focus' on page 11: a ship can spend a focus token even if it did not roll any [eyeball] results.

I'm going to like this upgrade.

Note that you can't then spend another focus to mod eyes on the rerolled dice.

From page 7 of the current FAQ:

Quote

Spending Tokens
When attacking, players may spend target locks and choose to reroll 0 attack dice. Additionally, players may spend a focus token even if they do not roll any (focus) results. When defending, players may spend focus tokens even if they do not roll any (focus) results and may spend evade tokens to add evade results in excess of the number of hit and critical hit results.
Focus, evade, and target lock tokens cannot be spent for their normal effect more than once during the "Modify Attack Dice" and "Modify Defense Dice" steps. For example, a ship cannot spend 2 evade tokens to add 2 evade results. However, a ship can spend more than 1 of each token on different effects, such as spending 1 focus token as the cost for Calculation and another focus token focus token for its inherent effect.

The second paragraph is quite important when it come to loading up on tokens.

We call that the Garven rule local to me. Every time someone new plays with him it comes up.

That or the keyan rule. Keyan spends stress but it's certainly analogous.
