With the Hammerhead coming out, along with Boarding Engineers, I'm wondering something. When you discard damage with Reinforced Blast Doors (or in general, an engineering command), do you get to know the damage you're discarding? Can you pick the ones you discard, or is it random choice of 3 cards (or 1-2, if you're using an engineering command)?
Reinforced Blast Doors and Knowledge
I don't think you're ever allowed to look at face down damage cards.
You're not allowed to look at Face down Damage cards.
Currently, there is no effect that allows you to look at your own face down damage cards at this point.
Your enemy can look at them... But they remain hidden information for you.
Which makes discarding them through RBD or Engineering Command a bit of a crapshoot... Since, you might think you know, but you can't ever know-know.

So I can look at the facedown cards on an opponent's ship BEFORE I trigger Boarding Engineers? Nasty and delightful.
And I assume they then get discarded facedown as well?

I didn't say that at all.
Perhaps I should have added 'at the appropriate time'.
You can look at them due to triggering Boarding Engineers. Because Boarding Engineers tells you to look at them.
You can't look at them just for the hell of it. Its hidden information for both players.
Face up/Face down cards when discarded, retain their face up/face down status, yes. In the discard pile, they're still discarded face down./

ahhhhh. thanks.
There is one card thst allows you to look at a damage card's critical effect, and thst's Dodonna. But even with him you cannot check the already dealt facedown cards b3fore you decide which one to flip.
The critical effect on a dealt facedown card is a secret info not to be known by either of the players. Except if the card WAS dealt faceup and then turned facedown (i.e. srtuctural). Then you may deliberately flip that card, if you remember which one it was. But you can't say "Ok, I'll flip the one that has structural on it, please look it up for me". If you don't remember which card it was, too bad.
Additionally, you cannot use the information gained from looking at the damage cards with other effects, such as the Precision Strike objective. It says to flip a random card.
Unfortunately repairing and RBD do not call for random card choice, which technically allows to play Damage Card Memory (R), which is not a pleasant situation IMO.
The FAQ does not specify whether you are "allowed" to remember Hidden Information, or only have access to the knowledge while you are using an appropriate effect. The latter would imply, that you should shuffle your damage cards all the time... On the other hand, if this memory game is intended, we cannot actually pick the random Precision Strike card by shuffling the cards, a different mechanism like die rolling would be necessary?
Simply shuffling turned down cards could be the answer. Or discard the flip-on-critical card and deal another facedown instea.
Shuffling would be one way to go along, dealing a new card will actually change the situation a lot and could have significant impact on the way the game is played.
Anyway, I think we are approaching a point where the intended and correct handling of the face down cards deserves a FAQ clarification.
