Squall and fighter movement does my head in.......

By Jondavies72, in Star Wars: Armada

So I'm wondering if the FAQ around moving fighters was in some way connected to this card. I'm still trying to figure out how I can confirm I have placed fighters outsides of engagement without.

1) using two measuring tools.

2) measuring fighter movement range, placing the fighter but keeping my hand on it,picking up the measuring tool, then measuring for potential engagement and reajusting where the fighter is ( is this what the fighter movement FAQ was trying to capture ?)

If it's the case that they now allow example "two"to happen for Squall, what is to stop anyone playing that same way to ensure perfect placement of a fighter ( for getting the engagement/range or not that they want) and how do you ensure they stay in their movement band.......... I'm a bit less than happy with the right and wrong of fighter placement at present.

This is one of those "dont overthink it" things. IMO I would let an opponent drop a one stick next to my fighters while he measured his squall move if there was a question that because it would speed things up.

I would be happy with this in casual play, but as it breaks the one tool rule I would not do it in tournement play without checking with the TO first.

The single tool rule bothers me as I don't believe Armada should be about guessing distance. And making it a hassle to to move a squad seems like it's just making squad movement take longer. One could say that because you can't use two tools, just go with it and accept the results, but in a competitive moment, that's not going to happen. Instead you get the back and forth of measuring here and there and then the first place again to make sure you won't make a mistake.

I still wish we had a disk token that we could place and move around and measure to when moving a squad. Then when we've found a place that is where we want and within the move distance, pick up the moving squad and place it where the disk is. There might actually be some better shape for this.. like maybe a bracket that the squad base slips into.. you'd measure the edge anyway. Maybe something like that.. but I feel it would make squad play more accurate and faster in those really competitive moments.

YOU can't measure with two tools at one time, but your opponent can measure with one tool at the same time as you measuring with one tool to help you determine what is and is not a legal maneuver. That is legal

Can I just give you the "Bloody genius" award for sorting out how to do squall.

I just measure max range, place my finger on the table where I think I want the fighter, measure engagement ranges adjust finger recheck max range move fighter to where my finger is. ;) fast friendly and accurate. Best of all no problems.
