FFG and Honor Competitions

By Mirith, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Do we expect to continue to see the Honor competitions having support from FFG?

For new people: The honor prize was a prize for a tournament not directly related to the actually playing of cards. Usually it was the best of something vaguely artistic, whether a short story, a haiku, a costume, etc. In the past, AEG would support these as a separate prize, including offering a story prize. It was not mandatory but everyone was encouraged to participate.

I don't expect FFG to continue the tradition, but old-school TOs will likely keep it alive.

An easy honor competition is a haiku.

As someone planning on running almost all of this islands l5r OP I am seeking ideas for prizes and events constantly.

Haiku, coloring contest, costume contest, and thematic decks are a few that I remember. Then there were other things like top of clan, bottom of clan, best sportsman, newest player, furthest traveled....bunches of ways to try and reward as many people as possible and make each event special. I'm sure FFG prize support will be good but hopefully the TO's will continue with some of the traditions of the past.

Don't you mean "An easy honor / competition is a test / of haiku writing"?

Weren't the honor prizes always at the TOs discretion as to what they wanted to do and what they wanted to award? I don't remember aeg specifically giving a prize to the honor award except during race for the throne

In the last Kotei I ran, there was a prize for the honor contest winner. IIRC, it was a Foil L5R Love Letter.

Most years had a Gift Certificate at the minimum, and usually extra product specifically denoted as being for the Honour Event winner. As Nakata said, this included Foil L5R Love Letter.

I thought the honor competitions had some story prizes associated with them sometimes, at least during Emperor. Or affected the main story prize slightly maybe?

I remember one being "choose a character to be featured in the next short story". The guy chose either Shune or Takayuki (can't remember which, but definitely a Kenku).

I can see such competitions being side events at Worlds, but I don't suspect it to be a main championship competition.
