Help for a noob

Hi.

I have been wanting to get into this game for a long time and I have finally gotten around to put an order in for a code set. I really love x-wing but got kind of burned on it. I don't get to play so often but I bought a lot of ships to be able to play lots of lists I never get to play ? So in order to try and avoid the same mistake with this game I have a question I hope some experienced players can help with.

I won't be playing competitive just pure casual with a friend or two. I don't mind buying everything there is if necessary. I don't mind buying a ship that won't be played much or is "bad" in most list as long as it is fun or has its place. What I want to know is what to buy to get a game, that is well balanced independent of play style. Kinda like a game without expansions if that makes sense?

(I did try to read up on this in the other posts but everything is mostly regarding specific lists or if you should buy one or two core sets regarding copetitative play.)

For Casual play, as long as you're basically keeping purchases fairly even on both sides, then you'll have an enjoyable framework.

Get an Imperial Star Destroyer for the Empire...

... Get Home One or Liberty for the Rebellion.

Get a Rebel Fighter Pack?
... Get Impierial II fighter pack to compensate.

As long as they're kept roughly equivelant that way, you'll keep an enjoyable casual framework - no messy competitiveness aside :)

If you're just playing with a group of friends, it's best if everyone has a core set, so that you can have a damage deck for each side. Having a maneuver tool each is also good.

But you can get away without it if you stick with 400 point or smaller fleets. So, in addition to the 1 core set for your group, pick up an Imperial light cruiser, a gladiator star destroyer, and a rebel heavy ship (either of the 2 MC80 options).

This would give each side 3 ships, 1 medium or large, and 2 small. That's in the ballpark of $200 for the whole set, split between your players.

I would also recommend the corellian conflict expansion at some point down the road. I'm a casual only player and we've played thru it several times.

Thanks a bunch for your answers ?
