Counter, Snipe and range 1

By GammonLord, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Can you opt to "Snipe" attack at range 1 to avoid the enemy's counter?

Im reading the distance 2 as essential to sniping (as per the Snipe description), anything at range 1 being a regular attack (Of course, i'm aware you can snipe outside of your current engagement at range 2 if you're not engaged an Escort squad).

However, recently had an opponent who insisted they could do this (in this particular instance, opt to Snipe Shara Bey at range 1 rather than initiate a regular attack to avoid her Counter). Went along with it for the purposes of game flow, but not sure they had Snipe correct here...

Nope. "At distance 2" is not "at distance 1-2".

Exactly as i thought. Like i say, wasn't going to insist when they were so adamant til I had reference, so thank you :)

Distance and range bands are not inclusive of shorter bands. I find it's easier to conceptualize correctly if you change the names of the bands to A, B, C... etc. People make assumptions based on the nomenclature (close is less than long so it must be contained within it) that aren't supported by the rules.

If anyone tries to dispute you, Evades work in the same way Snipe does. Cancel a die at long range, reroll at medium, and nothing at close.

Ah man, you say I cannot both cancel a black die and force a reroll when I am hit by Demolisher? :D

But I still get to use both Evades at the same time at long range with Foresight to cancel four dice, right? It was in the MC30 preview, after all! ;)

Not anymore, unfortunately... It was updated after about an Hour and a Half ;)

Bonus points if you can find the original picture link, though :D
