Dark Heresy Companion

By Peacekeeper_b, in Dark Heresy

With so much free PDFs given out by FFG to support both DH and RT, there are just so many files to comb through for all the bonus material given us. Knowling that there is so much free stuff, as well as there being more stuff cut from books and not yet released (such as T.S. Luikart's Mass-Volley Rules) what all would you want to see in a compiled Companion PDF/Book for ease of reference.

On my list would be:

Vehicles Apocrypha

Calixis Sector Guide

Salvation Demands Sacrifice

T.S. Luikart's Volley Rules

Time Line

Homeworld and Career Trinkets and Charms

The Errata

Oh, and perhaps one of the winning adventures from the contest, reformatted into DH stadard format/layout. I would also like to see material from other books added to the companion, for ease of access. For example, from Purge the Unclean the Serrated Query information, from GMs Kit, the poisons and xenos generators.

uhm... I beg your pan, but is your plan to fan-gather & fan-distribute material that is (partly) under copyright or do you suggest to FFG to sell us this information (again) in a futur publication of theirs?

no intention of putting together or selling or anything. I just think it would be nice to have it repackaged as a full sized pdf book, instead of having to search through several pdfs and books for small information that would be more useful in a readily available file. Kind of like when they reformmated Edge of Darkness into a real PDF file instead of just a text on white paper file.

And it is more of a question of what would you want to see in a companion style book for Dark Heresy.

A fluff only Guide to the Calixis Sector would be pretty neat, detailing the sub-sectors and some more worlds and locations in them.

As for the Vehicle Apocrypha rules ... they might be inserted into a tech- or Mechanicus sourcebook imo. I'd really like to see that happen.

As for the crappy premade scenarios (calling themselves 'adventures' ...), I really got no need for them and wouldn't purchase a book containing one or more or (Emperor beware) maybe even new ones.

Or, you know, they might be scrapped and replaced with something else. FFG already mentioned vehicle rules as part of Rogue Trader, and then cut them from the rulebook for space reasons (which, incidentally, was the same fate that the Xenos generator in the DH GM's Kit, and the expanded Corruption rules in The Radical's Handbook both suffered - both were in the rulebook, neither made it to print initially and were instead published in later books).

The vehicles were also cut from Dark Heresy from what I understand, which is why the PDF rules were given out so fast.

Those vehicle rules must feel very unwanted.

That is my biggest complaint against the 40K RPGs right now (other then the career system, but they are slowly making up for that). Too many rules spread over too many books. Maybe one day we will get a flat out Rules Companion, like TSR did with D&D Basic in the 90s.

Not quite. They were going to be in The Inquisitor's Armoury, but when that and The Acolyte's Handbook were merged into a single book, and then pushed back along the release schedule, the vehicle rules were removed and released as a free supplement earlier than the book they were going to feature in.
