Does the scavenger crane elicit card allow it to be used anytime an enemy at range 1-2 is destroyed by anything? Or only when the ship equipping it destroys a ship?

After a ship at Range 1-2 is destroyed, you may choose a discarded , , , , , or Modification Upgrade card that was equipped to your ship and flip it faceup. Then roll 1 attack die. On a blank result, discard Scavenger Crane.

Any ship getting destroyed triggers it, not just the ones killed specifically by the crane owner

Any ship's destruction triggers it including allies.

Just make sure you remember to trigger it when one of your own dies, and that you have to roll for the crane after..
