How exactly does autoblaster turret work?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

That card says" Attack: Attack 1 ship (even a ship outside your firing arc). Your hit results cannot be cancelled by defense dice. The defender may cancel

crit results before results. Attack: 2. Range: 1.
People in my store have memory somewhere where an evade token counts as an evade dice, but I checked the FAQ I cannot find it.
So what is the correct ruling and where is it posted?
Can evade tokens be use on Autoblaster turret to cancel hits, or does the AB turret ignore those too?
Thanks,

The FAQ entry for Autoblaster (cannon) [FAQ page 15] is what you're looking for:

When attacking with Autoblaster, the defender cannot cancel results with evade tokens or other added results, such as from C-3PO (see "Rolling Dice" on page 6).

Problem is: That is for the Autoblaster cannon. What about the Autoblaster turret?

It would have the same ruling.

My group doesn't think so.

Dang

In plain language, spending an evade token adds an evade result to your defense dice results. (see Rules Reference page 10) So there is no difference between an evade generated by an evade token and an evade generated by a defense die. So autoblaster (cannon and turret) treat both the same (ignoring them with hit results).

There doesnt need to be a FAQ for this, for the cannon its just a clarification of how things work - evade tokens add a dice result, dice can't be used when defending against Autoblaster cannon AND turret because they have the same wording minus the out of arc for the turret.

Basically all Hits rolled cannot be canceled by dice. Only Crits can be stopped by Defense dice or any modification of those Defense dice. Only non-dice related abilities can block normal Hits from Autoblaster turrets.

So say I roll a hit and a crit with an Autoblaster turret. You roll 3 evades on your 3 green dice. You block the 1 crit and then suffer 1 damage.

They're only saying that because they choose to ignore the basic rule of what an evade token does.

Probably the same Laser Brains that call the evade token a temporary shield token.

These guys are correct in its ruling being the same as the cannon.

Although it's hardly ever seen in play, when released it raised a lot of salt for it's illogical-ness in the fact that a pilot could make NO evasive maneuver even if the turret is in arc (right in the pilot's view) and he knows it's coming. Guys in my group used it as FFGs dumb moment......until JK5s of course.

Yeah, remember back in the day when autoblasters were a super annoying overpowered negative play experience?

No?

Me neither. :P

You can still take an evasive maneuver--it's called a barrel roll. Put yourself out of range 1. Honestly, I like the fluff of the autoblaster--it's shooting a crap ton of low powered bolts. Even the best pilot is going to be hit by some of them, but the damage will be light.

There is no reason whatsoever for them to believe that. Both cards have exactly the same wording. FAQ entries (unless they're erratas) never change anything about how a card works - they explain it in different words and occasionally clear up timing inconsistencies. Any explanation of the autoblaster turret also applies to the autoblaster cannon and vice versa.

The best thing to do is to Email FFG and get a definitive answer. I am with everyone in saying that it works exactly the same as the cannon, but I have played games against people like your playing group who believe that, unless it is exactly defined that it will work how they want it too. I bet they say, that is the rule for the cannon, show me the rules for the turret. The cannon and the turret dont work the same. It is quite frustrating.

Actually best thing to do is simply don't play with that group anymore. Let them join Parker in their little X-wing click and keep them away from the actual positive aspects of this community,

Thats easier said than done, some people just dont have a large playing group to decide who they play the game with.

Good lord. How can people play this way? Outside of the number of dice and arc restriction, they are worded the same word for word. I would get up and walk out if my opponent insisted they worked differently after being presented with the autoblaster cannon FAQ reference.

True, but then again that's even more reasons to stop playing and find another group. Or maybe try some vassal games.

The good thing is, nobody has to stop playing with their current group in order to start playing with new folks, on- and offline :P

Careful. Say it 3 times while looking into a mirror and you know who will come back.

RRG page 10: "When defending, the ship may spend that token to add one additional evade result to his defense roll"

plus

RRG page 13: "To add a die result, place an unused die displaying the result next to the rolled dice. A die added in this way is treated as a normal die for all purposes and can be modified and canceled."

It blasts things, automatically.

That is the rules lawyer reference for your group, no FAQ(or email) should be necessary. Unless they suddenly decide that the Rules Reference included in the Blue Core isn't real...
