So when card like ascension gun say (as if), does that mean your turn ends because you claimed. There are a couple of cards that say "this does not count as claiming". But other cards do not include this addition to the text.

Ascension Gun is the same as those cards, they just didn't have room for the reminder text. You can continue on with your turn as normal.
