Are you a one faction player?

By Greedo_Sharpshooter, in X-Wing

ive had time playing each faction. started as a rebel player. then imperial. now scum.

i dont really play any other faction other than scum right now. thats a lot of ships sitting on ice. i used to buy ships for the upgrades but have stopped this practice.

i still buy the odd non scum ship but very reluctantly and only if its a super good upgrade like autothrusters. i can always borrow the upgrades i need for a tourney anyway. seems like a smarter way to go so im not adding to all those ships on my shelf that just collect dust.

what do other players do?

Nope. The concept of "one faction" is alien to me, probably because XWM is only the seond minis game I've played, and the first (DDM) didn't encourage single-faction play, either.

I buy all the ships, and multiples of most, because I have very few restrictions on my disposable income. (And I channel my OCD into collecting.)

I buy at least 1 of everything - I just can't help myself...

... heck, there are even ships I despise that I've bought multiples of.

I play in a small group of friends. Each of us plays only one faction, and can only use cards that come with that faction ships. We'll probably open the card restriction out at some point but it seems to work well at moment. We have 2 rebel, 2 imp and 1 scum player.

Used to play rebel only. Then I bought some Imperials for HotAC, and eventually tried them on classic game. Since then, I do play both factions.

I've got at least one of every ship, and regularly fly all of the factions. I'm on a bit of an Imperial kick at the moment (and the First Order ships in particular), but I'm sure I'll be breaking out Rebels and Scum again soon enough!

I play everything. Just depends what strikes my fancy. Scum's generally my favorite, but I have ships and squads I really like in the other factions as well.

I have ships from all 3 factions.

I won't settle for just a third of a game experience. ;)

Imperial is my go-to faction, but I'm loving all the The Force Awakens ships at the moment.

I'll play whatever, though lean towards Imperial both for flavour and mechanics reasons.

I'm more of a collector than a player since I get one of each. However because of my financial limitations I realize I don't really collect for the meta otherwise I would be a 2 of each expansion. I do have my doubles of ships that have to be run in no fewer than a pair (TIE Fighter, Aggressor, A-wing), but for the most part I have limited myself to only 1 per expansion pack. I will admit this has kept me from making a lost of tournament builds (TLThugs, Dengaroo) and also has hampered my ability to experiment with builds (such as only having a single R5 astromech). However for people that are trying to get into the competitive scene I say plan on collecting two factions at least (because of all the cross over required to get upgrades). So there is a Primary, a Secondary, and lastly a tertiary.

  1. Primary faction is your go to faction. You should start there with maybe a net list that you believe fits your play style. Work only on that build getting all the expansions you need for that one list including ones out side your expansion. For continuation You should consider picking up each expansion for that faction that comes out and two of each of the small ship expansion (and some of the large ships). Also consider getting the epic expansions for some of the upgrades plus they make a good center piece for your primary faction. This faction should always be updated to the latest tournament build that you use.
  2. Secondary faction is the other faction that you bought to get all the upgrades you need for your primary faction build (i.e. Scum Star Viper for Autothrusters on your TIE interceptors). For continuation you should only have to get one of each standard expansion (small ship /large ship) only and don't have to worry about the special expansions (Aces, huge ships) unless there's an upgrade you need for your secondary faction list. Once you have a standard 100 point list you are well off for your lists as this is not your primary faction, however it should still try to match your play style. If Imperial Arc dodgers is your primary list then Scum should be either an Arc Dodger or a counter for practice. Also if you feel the need that the meta is too unfair for your primary list you have this as a back up.
  3. Tertiary faction is for those with a budget and you really only need to get ships that has upgrades for your primary faction that you can't find anywhere else. If budget constraints is your concern you can ignore all the special releases (Aces, Huge ships). However any cross over expansions (TIE Fighter, Most wanted) You may consider if they have upgrades that are suited for your faction. Eventually you should have enough to scrounge up a 100 point standard list, but it won't be that good of a one since your options will be limited.

I play rebels probably 95% of the time, and scum 5%.

It was probably closer to 50-50 when scum came out, but the better they get, the less fun they are to play.

Due to demands of the game, I buy stuff from every faction. I usually play Imperials though. I like the design of the ships.

I buy at least one of every ship, I build lists for all three factions, talk about flying all three factions, but every time I go to a tournament I open my box and there is an imperial list in there. I don't know what happened!?!

One faction player, that's me.

I play a LOT of wargames and other mini-based games (I have around 1100 D&D minis, for example), and I very consciously limited myself to Imperials to start with. One toolbox holds all my Imp stuff, and that's a hard limit for my X-Wing collection.

Just like my WM collection is ONE 15x11 tray, and that's it. No more.

I only ever buy or play imperials. I despise those who do otherwise. :)

I have loads of Imperial ships, a few Scum, but I will only fly Rebels (mostly).

Conceptually, I am an Imperial player. But, I have bought everything so eventually I get curious enough to give them all a go.

I buy tons of stuff from all factions, but I am a rebels only player

I fly whatever I need to counter the meta, so I need everything. For casual games, I usually stick with imperials though cause the Tie/D is just **** fun, and the TIE S/F is best ship in the game.

I don't get enough play time now so there's no point in me getting ships I'm not that interested in anymore. That tends to be a lot of EU large ships.

So im just imperial now. With some nice rebel and scum small ships. Got 3 arcs!

I got into the game to play with my son, so pretty much instantly we were looking at two factions. It was just natural to then add Scum. Since the focus is on casual since we predominantly play at home, it is fun to have options and all ships get used. I used to play several other miniature and/or collectible games and have since given them up, so getting lots of different XWM isn't a huge problem. In fact, X-wing is still probably cheaper than any of those other games I was playing.

Rebel Scum and Pond Scum must all be destroyed with extreme prejudice. Empire for life!

I play everything casually. I've never played anything but Rebels at a tournament.

Sign on with jackbooted imperial thugs or stomach-churningly idealistic rebellionnaires? No thanks.

I'm here for personal profit. You call me scum, you call me a villain, but what I am…is an entrepreneur.
